Hmm community - should we allow advertising like posts like this?

Most of the posts in this subforum are paid/revshare job offers (and some of them are crossposts from reddit) anyway. I'd say it hardly makes a difference at this point as far as commercial offers are concerned.
That' what you get for having no separate recruitment forums for ModDB and IndieDB. The free and commercial gets mixed up way too often.

But I digress. Even if it doesn't matter whether these models are free or not, it is still a forum for finding individuals, and not assets. So for the moment being, we shouldn't allow this.
But out of fairness, someone should compile a list with asset websites, so that those who really do need this type of stuff for their Indie games and have the money, can find it faster.

But not here, because again, this is the recruitment forum, and not the "public billboard/marketplace" forum.

We could split the forums up if you believe that would help?

Maybe its worth having a market place forum then, splitting the forums may not be the solution. Otherwise if they want to advertise paid products they need to pay to advertise, otherwise threads like this could simply be moderated out. We have taken the approach that no action is better than taking action and advertising threads of any nature are not he key to community interaction so would drop / die pretty quickly.
We do a decent job of keeping most the spam out, Nothing against the products or services on offer, its whether or not the community want to see these threads populating a forum and making it look like this.

Well was just considering this kind of fits ["3D Modeler"] Looking for paid work!

But oh well, if the situation is that bad just kill the post. Indie community became way too aggressive compared to 5-10 years ago...

making it look like this.

Always puzzled me why indie developers are trying to sell own games to other indie developers... most are too busy making own games anyway :)

Well,

The way I see it,

unless the artist(s) are willing and able to commit to the respective projects, it shouldn't be an issue.

If the assets are as is, and they won't modify them for the client, then no, they shouldn't be allowed here.

Most of us here are making our own project(S), and we're looking for individuals who are willing and able to work with us on a short term or long term basis until the project is complete. Having visual Artists or any other kind of artist just sell us their already created assets, and having us do the leg work of adapting them to our needs is likely not the kind of commitment and extent of communication we're looking for.

A artist of any kind wants to make something that is uniquely theirs, as a form of expression. Purchasing another artist's assets would largely undermine our purpose.

Asset sales are for those who want to get a specific type and quality of art for an established specific purpose or project, or for those non artist who need assets for a product, and don't want to hire the labor, but just want the end result.

So, in my humble opinion, unless the seller is willing to work with the client directly to customize satisfaction, then no, this is not the appropriate place for such advertizements.
