does the engine optimise the vertex topology or are you stuck with millions of polys, because looking at this even a flat surface has tons of polygons which presumably would bump up rendering time/ slow down game performance
Yeah, you're right. It is on my todo, but well... ;)
Warcraft 3 used a crap load of poly's as well, but if it can be optimized, why not? :D
