Frictional Games is a small games developer located in the south of Sweden, more specifically in the town of Helsingborg. We develop our own technology to power our games, so far we have released three titles - all part of the Penumbra Series.

Frictional Games isn't really located in Helsingborg, two of us live here and the company is registered here, other than that it is very much a virtual company. Currently we are five people working full-time, all from our own homes, with the Internet as our "office". In addition we hire contractors to help out with specific tasks during production, such as audio, writing and graphics.

Our own game engine goes under the name HPL and uses industry standard technologies such as OpenGL, OpenAL and Newton Game Dynamics. The engine is currently undergoing an extensive update and the new version is cleverly named HPL2. HPL2 is being used in our upcoming game, Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Sign up for the Newsletter to stay up-to-date with our project developments. If you like independent game development, please consider purchasing one of our games as it really helps with the development of our next game!

I liked penumbra and amnesia the dark descent, but I think amnesia a machine for pigs wasn't as good. I don't know why but I think you were more focused on graphics and gameplay, because the monsters were slow and don't show up anymore. I could outrun them by walking! Thank you for your time.

Can any one over at Frictional look in to the problems with the sh.bz2 files?
They are too small and corrupt.
bunzip will not even extract it, it says the bz2 file is corrupt.

to everyone who says Amnesia should be free: the folks at frictional games spent countless hours making it so they deserve to be paid for making such a good game. trust me its worth the buy and i bet you guys can earn the 20 bucks it costs to buy it.

ikr, what do they think this is one of those generic boring horror games like all the slender games and stuff? This is actually a good, quality horror game worth the money.
