Post news Report RSS Development Resumed

We've picked up the project again. Hurrah! Incoming NEXT Update. New Textures, Reworked Models, and two IS factions.

Posted by on

We had a tremendous amount of fun with HBS BattleTech and it left us hungry for more. As that HBS Battletech does not support modding (and trust us, we looked into it, and we were left wanting), we're resuming the Supreme Mech Commander project.

Current plans are splitting the current generic Inner Sphere faction (default Davion) into Steiner and Davion with faction specific units inherent to those Great Houses.

Kami has also gone back over the old models and textures and started updating and reworking with what we've learned over the last couple years.

We'll keep you posted with changes as they come. Meanwhile, teasers of addition units being created will be released as they're ready.

Seyla!

Battletech shot itself in the foot with no modding support, but I guess thats what they want to sell you later in dozens of little dlcs - content that can be created by modders like emblems, new mechs, maps, weapons, mission types etc.
I just hope we will see something like MegaMek one time with generated conflicts around map instead of some linear missions

Oh, and good that you are back

Well... I mean that is kind of their prerogative, to make money off of this franchise. Along with the mass of potential legal fiddly business if they start encouraging people to include stuff in their game that they weren't allowed to. Hawkward.

i thought battletech has modding support? they left all their files there unprotected thats how people added new weapons e.t.c. unless you mean some sort of fully fledged mod SDK?

You can play around in files and change/add weapons or mech properities (like creating new mech variants or adding new weapons + effects) with text editor, but thats pretty much it, rest is just replacing files like sounds etc, but I dont know if there is possibility to replace hardpoints and skeleton, definitely not adding whole new mech but replacing existing one with new model that fit existing skeleton is I guess possible

There seems to be a lot of leeway in what you can do with the game, but the general idea of "not supporting mods" in this case is that they will not be dedicating any resources to making it easier for people, nor will they make any attempts to avoid their patches breaking mods.

Lets be clear here first. We LOVE HBS Battletech. There. That said, Unity won't allow us to unzip asset packs for the models, and HBS hasn't provided a tool to do so like say, Kenshi did. To keep the tech jargon in general terms.

Again, to be clear, there is no hard feelings towards anyone here. Its just a bummer. And I GET wanting to protect the assets of a newly launched title, particularly with this community. Because we're hard core, and if they didn't, then the Clan Invasion would be happening Yesterday.

As for a Dev/Studio not taking responsibility for breaking mods, or supporting it, that's a no brainer to me. Doesn't even needs to be mentioned to us. There's a symbiotic relationship here. Modders make the mods, Devs reap the rewards from the versatility and enthusiasm those mods drive towards their product, and the mod team either keeps up with the product updates, or everyone stays frozen in a version for awhile until a big update and we can all catch up.

I think the deal here was, we WANTED to make mods for BATTLETECH and, we were sad to see we weren't going to be able to work on it at the level we needed to so... what that means to the internet at large...

SUPREME MECH COMMANDER IS BACK ON BABY!

(though I am pushing for another Engine like Spring, but, let's not worry about that right now)

Please continue! Please add the MW2 mechs, those are some of my favorite. Specifically the Black Hawk and Marauder
