The open source Zircon engine ("DarkPlaces Mark V Project") is a modification DarkPlaces engine with a mouse driven menu everywhere, ALT-ENTER fullscreen/windowed switching and 88 other enhancements to support user/mapper/mod coder ease-of-use and optional conveniences for those interested in a "1996 Quake" experience. "csqc_full_width_height 1" in console when running Arcane Dimensions at this time It is hoped that some/many/all of these enhancements will eventually make it into official DarkPlaces. The Zircon engine seeks to keep full compatibility with DarkPlaces so either engine can be used interchangeably.

Description

This is tech demo of Quake3_Quake1 mapping kit with playable single player maps demonstrating the features available. These Quake 1 maps are Q3 format made for DarkPlaces/Zircon, one of those engines is needed. Featured are 2 maps: Geoplanetary Station and The Hotel. Future versions of the kit will have more single player maps available. Not included: J.A.C.K. / TrenchBroom editor .fdg files and instructions. Those are in the process of being finalized and will be coming as time permits, likely in a few days. 1) Requires Quake 1 2) Unzip to quake3_quake1 folder 3) Start with: darkplaces -game quake3_quake1 or zircon.exe -game quake_quake1 Or in Zircon you can start Quake normally and type "game quake3_quake1" in the console. Do single player -> new game. Enjoy!

Hi Baker, jakub1 from quaddicted forum here. I tried the new demo and all textures in jpg format shows ingame as a black/white checkerboard. I encountered this issue in the past with DP and Zircon. Converting all textures into PNG/TGA solves this problem for me.

I am curious - zircon can load JPGs? Is there a problem on my side?

footnote - do you check quaddicted forum from time to time?

Delete your libjpg in Quake folder. Then try again. I suspect you have a 64 bit dll that Zircon (32-bit) will not load.

In a previous engine, FitzQuake Mark V, I had jpg loading occur internally. FitzQuake Mark V required no DLLs at all. However, I don't think that would be easy to implement in DarkPlaces, I designed FitzQuake Mark V to be able to do that.

Anyway, let me know if it is a dll issue. You always provide A plus plus feedback and I appreciate it/listen.

Create a folder named bin64. Put your official DarkPlaces dll in there.
Create a folder named bin32. Put your Zircon DLL in there.
Then eliminate any dll in the primary Quake folder.

Hello Baker, thanks for your work and the zircon engine !

Regarding the new demo, I did what you said (bin32,...) but I have the exact same problem as jukub1.

I have located the jpg problem, there is a missing DLL in the Zircon engine distribution. Since even graphical Quake mods for DarkPlaces often do not use jpg, this was under the radar.

Zircon engine V 22 coming ...

Use Zircon engine V 22 that includes the required jpeg dll.

This will resolve this missing texture rendering.

Thank you for identifying this issue!
