War of the Silmarils is a sub-mod of Third Age: Total War, the ever popular total conversion for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The goal is to follow the lore as closely as possible and faithfully reproduce the heroic First Age of Tolkien's Middle-earth in the Medieval II: Total War engine. Heavy Nogrod phalanx armed with broad-bladed spears and silver shields decorated with the device of Nogrod, the hammer and anvil, clad in heavy dwarven linked mail and helms. Capable of forming a phalanx.

Cold is the glint of steel of the closed ranks of these Nogrod warriors, their mail like the scales of so many fish, their broad, heavy spears like the teeth of dragons. These Nogrod spearmen are very well trained, fighting as a cohesive, united unit, able to form a close-woven phalanx, their line bristling like a thorn bush with spearheads able to repel charges from orc and warg alike. Each of these warriors is clad in a fine hauberk of mail, forged deep within the forge-pits of the Naugrim in Nogrod. Their spears are large and heavy, able to penetrate through the hides of trolls and dragons alike, no armour save that of other Naugrim or the Eldar have the ability to turn aside a thrust from the spears these warriors wield. A shield each of these warriors bears, to catch any dart that their foes may loose upon them, these shields adorned with the device of their city: the Hammer and Anvil of Nogrod. Fiery is their temperament, and their approach strikes fear into the hearts of all their foes, for it is the sound of stomping iron-shod boots, the clinking of mail against metal and the harsh, hateful war cries of the Naugrim.
