The Battle of Philadelphia is a Half-Life 2 modification set in the Half-Life universe. The story chronicles the city of Philadelphia, USA in the days following the events of City 17. This project will be distributed for free and released incrementally in chapters, though the first release will contain the first 2 chapters. Only owners of Half-Life 2 will be able to play it (an installation of Steam and HL2 is required and you may also need "SDK Base - Orange Box" from Steam).
...You awaken from a strange dream on the floor of an old shop that seems to have been stripped bare. Everyone in the streets outside is wearing uniforms reminiscent of prison outfits. The last thing you can remember is... well.. you can't remember anything, and every time you ask one of the locals what's going on they just tell you not to drink anymore of the water. What the hell is going on? As you round the corner, your heart skips a beat when you notice the monolithic nightmare towering above the city, a black spire of pain and oppression stretching high up into the clouds. People are being executed in the streets, strange metal walls are devouring buildings and some guy that you recognize from the senate is blurting out nonsense from some kind of high tech T.V. screen. This place isn't safe. You move on in search of answers...
The main goal of our Mod is to create a game set in the Half-Life universe that stays true to Valve’s narrative style. We understand that Valve has future plans for Gordon and friends and we are taking steps to minimize interference and contradiction with those plans. This means that the game is going to take place far away from City 17 and will feature new characters.
The first installment of the game is primarily focused on introducing the setting, characters and situation in post Episode 2 Philadelphia. Future episodes will feature new enemies and weapons which are currently in the alpha stage of development.
BOP has entered round 1 of Beta tests as of this morning. It certainly won't be the last round of tests, but it represents a (sort of) milestone for us in moving the mod toward release. Stop by our forums for more information. Not much has changed in the way of media really, so, sorry but no pics today. no sick trailer. No fancy shmancy model renders. Trust me, all that extra stuff would just take away from development time anyway.
This is just a quick update to let everyone interested know that we have moved into our First round of tests.
Sorry that there haven't been a lot of updates lately, but we've been hard it work. The devs decided to fore go the demo and just get it all ready to...
Whats up with your website? I can seed code everywhere.
Solid man, I'll send you my input when I get a chance.
cool man!
when you have something, post it on the forums... I don't check moddb that often.
NOW were important,in a mod game.Hey,i live in Philadalphea (i forgot how its spelled)
Really, its on the top of the page...
i would be happy if u made the xm8 assault rifle in this mod
Those "new weapons" better not be direct gas(ar-15,m4) pieces of crap, but that's why there are custom models and skins.
I should point out DJPOO, that there aren't new weapons in the first release. We're planning some for later, but this first release is to show that we're serious enough to actually finish something, and that we're not going to quit. My personal hope is that we can attract one or two talented people to help out with this project (though we want the team to remain small) in maps and maybe models, so that I can focus on code. I consider myself a decent mapper, and I can do basic models, but there are definitely people out there with much stronger skills that could help this mod become something special.
In the end though, our focus is on telling a story, not packing a bunch of new features in, or creating an awesome map pack.
What about adding something like the Fabrica of hl2 beta (originaly named Garages)
Understood, but it will help the story to have more logical equipment for the players to use. The team is doing a good job of re-creating a Western city rather then an European one, so one would think there would be weapons that are more easily procured or created in the USA,either real or used by Military and Law enforcement in the near future. Where in Half Life 2 that is the Combine. Only the crowbar would be easily found on this side of the Atlantic.
There are some good concepts out there that may work better in the HL2 universe then weapons in use now. As you can tell, I'm am biased against direct gas weapons. Anyways good luck with your efforts.
