This is the biggest peasant war in human history.
They claim to be God's chosen people, they are the Christian crusaders in China, and they will fight against a huge empire, only for a dream of building a christian heaven.
This mod is based on Chinese Series <<Taiping Heavenly Kingdom>> (1999) made by CCTV (China Central Television).
Main Theme is called <<Hao Hao Qian Kun>> sing by Han Lei who is a very famous chinese singer.
The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (also known as the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement) was the largest peasant uprising in Chinese history and the war with the most casualties in the history of human warfare. Nearly 100 million people (almost 95.11 million) died in this war, even more than WW2.
At the end of the 19th century, the Qing Empire gradually declined due to the invasion of Western powers. The invasion of China by Western forces has aggravated social conflicts in China. The import of opium led to the outflow of a large amount of silver and deteriorated China’s economic environment. The corruption of officials and the oppression of the people were also aggravated by the reparations of Western forces.
The peasants who could not bear the exploitation and oppression of the Qing Empire launched an uprising in Jintian Village, Guangxi under the leadership of the God Worshipping Society, led by Hong Xiuquan and Yang Xiuqing, this uprising opened the prelude to China's largest peasant revolutionary war.
The God Worshipping Society was a religious movement founded and led by Hong Xiuquan which drew on his own unique interpretation of Christianity and combined it with Chinese folk religion, faith in Shangdi, and other religious traditions

Ummmmmm..... Which song is in this mod, well besides the main theme? It sounds interesting.
It is called "Hao Hao Qian Kun" which song by the Han Lei who is a very famous singer in China. This song is for describing rebellion and uprising.
I was talking about the second song. I have already heard Hao Hao Qian Kun, it was the opening theme for the Heavenly Kingdoms revolt. But the second song was playing as well, but I don't know what it's called.
Well, that is called "Never Regert" (永不遗憾) which is the main theme of <<Twilight of a Nation>> made in 1988 by HK TVB
Nice mod. Have you continue developed this mod?
Yep

a book called "rebels of the heavenly kingdom" by katherine patterson is a good read
Great!
Is this the time period where the weapons that most Kung-Fu styles teach came from? Swords like the Dao and Jian, butterfly knives, etc? I always wondered why those weapons became the default ones when Chinese weapons were so varied over their long history
Some people with ulterior motives even use Chinese Kung Fu for profit, which further accelerates the demise of Chinese Kung Fu.
Also, thanks for developing this mod! It seems very cool!
u are welcome!
I studied Chinese Kung-Fu (Choy Li Fut and Yang style Tai Chi Chuan) as well as Chinese wrestling techniques for around 20 years and fought San Shou matches, which was a lot of fun for a young man. My teacher tried to make a profit at it, but didn't gouge us, especially if we trained hard. He wanted that to be his means of making money and raising a family and never seemed greedy. Sadly, in the US renting an indoor space for a gym, or kwoon, or what ever you want to call it is expensive. I absolutely believe that there are an enormous amount of people teaching poor martial arts, but trying to make a profit from people who watch too many movies
Even a country with strict gun control like China cannot completely ban firearms, and people with intentions can still obtain guns through the black market and other smuggling channels. For example, the famous Type 54 pistol (also known as the Black Star pistol) is particularly popular in China's black market and underworld. Some underground workshops can even make their own firearms. Although the accuracy of these homemade firearms is poor, the firepower is still quite high. Although the police cracked down hard, they still couldn't stop it.
But I really doubt the significance of martial arts to modern society, especially today with firearms rampant. In the future, I am afraid there will be no need for martial arts. Robots and laser guns are popular, and martial arts are basically useless.
And there is saying in china: "The talented people is always in the folk" There are many talented people in the folk, they are unknown by the outside world, so you need to explore. There are still many martial arts masters in the Chinese folk. Their kung fu level is very high, but they always live in the deep mountains. If you have a sincere heart, then you will definitely find them and learn advanced martial arts.
Despite this, there are still some niche boxing skills in the Chinese folk, which still have the nature of fighting, and their boxing strength is no less than that of modern free boxing. For example, my father's generation learned a local niche boxing, which has a certain fighting nature.
ah
In any case, Chinese Kung Fu was quite common in ancient China, and many people knew some Chinese Kung Fu. Later, after China entered the modern society, as the Western powers used strong ships and cannons to open the door to China, under the bombardment of muskets and artillery, Chinese kung fu gradually declined. Today, Chinese Kung Fu has become a pure means of health preservation, and no longer has the nature of fighting.
Do you know anything about the history of the weapons that are commonly taught in Kung-Fu classes? As I brought up before, I have suspected that they were en vouge in the 19th century, but I am not Chinese and am curious if any history minded people know anything about it.
I spent a long time learning Kung-Fu, but eventually left it for Muy Thai, Western Boxing, and wrestling because they helped me the most in San Shou. A little later MMA started to take off and I did the above with a little Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and eventually got too old to fight and started coaching more than fighting. Once in a while, I'll teach and train some of the Kung-Fu attacks or combos that can catch someone by surprise, but by and large you are right. I've found that the Kung-Fu I did and some of the things I still do from my training have helped me avoid some of the injuries and damage that have plagued some of the other men I trained with. It makes me wonder if the earlier training for Kung-Fu was more like the training for modern mma. I suspect it was and what we learn now was more advanced "tricks" for certain situations and especially about maintaining our health despite the strain of rigorous training.
When your martial arts skills are high enough, you don't even need weapons or you can just find something to defeat the enemy. This is the highest level of martial arts.
Both Chinese kung fu and Chinese martial arts are based on a strong philosophical point of view, which is "the unity of man and nature" (天人合一). This point of view emphasizes the combination of man and weapon, rather than simply learning how to strike with weapons. It focuses on making people understand weapons. It's just an extension of the human body, you have to learn how to control your weapons, how to make your weapons a part of your body, and this is the essence of Chinese martial arts.
well, In fact, the highest state of Chinese kung fu is "no weapons", which emphasizes the combination of weapons and people. Those very advanced Chinese martial artists can defeat the enemy without using weapons or using any object (such as a piece of paper). Therefore, there is a saying in China: "Low-level martial arts learn weapons, high-level martial arts have no weapons."
You are right. Chinese Kung Fu can not only defend oneself, but also strengthen the body and resist diseases. Therefore, Chinese kung fu is very useful whether it is from health preservation or combat. In ancient China, swords and spears were very easy to make weapons, so it reduced the cost of resisting the government, and Chinese swordsmanship and spearmanship were very common. You can learn some swordsmanship and spearmanship from the master very easily, so in ancient China, many people practiced martial arts, and some of them the level of kung fu was quite high.
I'd love to see Chinese Swordmanship and Spearmanship(Seriously, Spearmanship is the most underated melee style on Earth) taking a page from the HEMA movement and reforming as much of the skill from the past as possible. In my experience the West likes things that are, "New and Improved." and China like things that were very ancient and time tested to work. In the past few years we have been able to reconstruct things that were unimaginable to us previously. Maybe with technology, scholarship and hard work we will get a glimpse into the past and advance at the same time.
But in terms of performance, Chinese Swordmanship and spearmanship are quite ornamental.
I think Western thinking is right. Chinese swordsmanship and spearmanship are outdated. It is hard to imagine that in a modern society where hot weapons and aircraft and tanks have become common weapons, you still use those ancient cold weapons. However, Chinese swordsmanship and spearmanship are good places for health preservation. In fact, until today, many Chinese elderly people are still wielding swords in the park to maintain health.
