10 Months After Endor (5 ABY)

With the Imperial retreat from Eriadu and Grand Moff Ardus Kaine's withdrawl to the New Territories, the rest of the Imperial controlled outer rim descended into Chaos. Without adequate forces to control this substantial territory, many worlds sympathetic to the Rebellion, chief among them the Bothawui and Mon Calamari, rebelled against Imperial rule. Launching from their newly liberated base on Sullust, Rebel Alliance forces begin a months long campaign to eliminate the last Imperial outposts from this area of space.

11 Months After Endor
Darth Vader dispatches High Admiral Zsinj, along with his Super Star Destroyer Iron Fist, to counterattack the Rebels to prevent them from taking worlds on the other side of the Perlemian Trade Route. While Zsinj follows this order, instead of returning these worlds to the Empire he keeps them for himself. After taking the title of Warlord (from which the many other Imperials borrowed the title), Zsinj denounced his allegiance to the Empire. The Zsinj Empire as it came to be called would be the largest and last chunk of territory to be lost to Imperial defections. While this infuriated Darth Vader, Zsinj correctly predicted that he would be too busy with the war with the Triple Alliance to do anything about the situation.

12 Months After Endor

Rumors circulate that emissaries from the Chiss Ascendancy have been seen on Coruscant. If true, it would be the first time regular diplomatic contacts have been established between the Chiss and the rest of the Galaxy in millennia.

15 Months After Endor
With the successful conclusion of the Rebel campaign to liberate the worlds of the outer rim between the Corellian Run and the Perlemian Trade Route, representatives from the liberated planets formally declare the formation of the New Republic. While it covers a sizeable territory in the outer rim, the infant government is all too much aware that the Rebel Alliance does not have the forces to protect them from a serious Imperial counter attack. Rather than join the Rebel Alliance directly, the New Republic decides to create its own professional military force, while the Rebellion will continue to carry out strikes in the Empire itself. While initially comprised of the same outdated, converted and stolen ships used by the Rebels, the New Republic's shipyards rush to create a new generation of warships designed to take on even the most powerful Imperial Star Destroyers.

17 Months after Endor
The Triple Alliance, while continuing to advance towards the Core Worlds but at a much slower rate after Eriadu, send envoys to meet on the Rebel controlled planet of Naboo for talks with the New Republic. After weeks of negotiating with princess Leia Organa and other diplomats, the two sides agree to formalize their de facto alliance. Among the terms of the resulting Treaty of Theed, the two sides claim to seek the complete destruction of the Galactic Empire, which will be replaced with a republic of independent worlds. The Triple Alliance is also promised to be given planets to resettle their huge population after the war, but just how much territory they are to receive and whether they will have to give up planets already conquered are not discussed.

18 Months After Endor

While acting on his own agenda since the Battle of Eriadu, Grand Moff Aruds Kaine announces the creation of the Pentastar Alignment of Powers. While officially a voluntary Federation of the major planets in the New Territories, virtually all the military power lies with Grand Moff Kaine and his Super Star Destroyer the Reaper. More surprising however was the announcement of the Pentastar Alignment's Neutrality Proclamation, which claimed that the alignment took no sides in the wars for control outside its borders. While initially cautious, the New Republic and Triple Alliance decide to recognize the independence of the Alignment as a means to further fragment the Empire.

20 Months After Endor

Darth Vader orders Grand Admiral Thrawn to use his forces to assist the Chiss Ascendancy against the Human Trader State (HTS) in the Chiss-Trader War being fought in the Unknown regions. With the Chiss now uncertain of their ability to keep the HTS at bay and rightly fearing genocide if their defenses fail, the Ascendancy finally agreed to become an Imperial Protectorate in exchange for immediate Imperial assistance. While the Chiss would only be compelled to fight directly for the Empire if Coruscant was threatened, a substantial annual tribute was also rumored to be among the terms of the agreement.

21 Months After Endor

Arriving at the Chiss front lines on his new flagship, the Chimaera, along with an Imperial task force, Grand Admiral Thrawn begins to study his new opponents. When he sends one of his TIE fighters to test the enemy response, things take an unexpected turn even for the Grand Admiral. Soon after shooting down the fighter with a Garda Flak Frigate and capturing the ejected pilot, the Chiss/Imperial forces receive a transmission wondering what humans are doing fighting with inferior alien species. Learning much from the phrasing of the communication, Thrawn hastily has his lieutenant, Captain Pallaeon, put on a spare Grand Admiral's uniform and has him claim that he is commander of the task force. After telling the HTS that he is protecting a valuable slave species serving humanity, the two sides agree to talks. In the weeks that follow, Thrawn learns enough about the HTS to manipulate them into an alliance with the Empire based on shared humanocentric principles. While Thrawn later tells Pallaeon that the ideals of the alliance horrify him, military necessity has to come first. And with the Empire preparing for what some assume will be a final showdown with the Triple Alliance at the critical world of Thyferra, Thrawn could not have picked a better time to bring two allies to the Imperial side of the war in a single stroke...
