You mentioned that there are a staggering number of varieties of this Dreadnaught- does this mean that the Mandalorian variant will have something to distinguish it from the one that the Warlords and Galactic Empire can build?

Well it will have different fighters at minimum. Maybe a different ability, depends partly on how powerful the Mandalorians end up being in the end. We don't want their ships to be overall better than the existing faction versions.

Awesome. I know this probably isn't lore friendly, but Dreadnoughts with missile batteries would be cool

Actually the Imperial Dreadnaught has a missile launcher at the front. This configuration was seen in the X-wing series games.

Oh, well that's promising. I never played the X-Wing series, but I've heard of them.

Well we got...

Imperial Dreadnaught
Militia Dreadnaught
Katana Fleet Dreadnaught
Assault Frigate (Heavily modified Dreadnaught)

So yes, the Mandalorian Dreadnaught would be the 5th if you count the Assault Frigate. :p

Description

As the Mandalorians sought to rapidly develop a competent navy, it was quickly apparent that building entirely new ships like the Crusader Corvette would not be enough to get a powerful force ready in time. As such, the Mandalorians began to acquire and modify other vessels to supplement their new fleet. One of the most important ships was the ubiquitous Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser.

The Dreadnaught was first produced over around 100 years ago by Rendili Star Drive. Since then the designs for the vessel have been sold or stolen to many independent shipyards across the galaxy, which produced the ships in a staggering number of varieties. Most variants still in service feature greatly improved automation first seen on the Katana fleet, and despite its age has been used by all sides of the Galactic Civil War. As such, Mandalore had no issues supplementing the Dreadnaughts in its own defense fleet with those acquired throughout the galaxy.

While not produced by Mandalorians, many parts of the Dreadnaught's design as well as its focus on durability were influenced by ancient Mandalorian designs of wars past, mainly the Kandossi Dreadnaught. As such, it proved to be an excellent fit compared to most other foreign built ships.

Militarily, the Dreadnaught serves and important role as the main mid sized vessel in the Mandalorian fleet. While the newer ships used by other factions are certainly more efficient and feature better armament, the Dreadnaught still soaks up damage incredibly well, and thus can well cover a fleet of smaller ships.

The Dreadnaught is also one of the few common Mandalorian ships capable of fielding fighters, and as such players a key role in providing Syck fighter support to task forces when a rare carrier is not available.
