Wouldn't be a lore post without OrionSlaver at the helm.

I read the book this is based on a LONG time ago. The only thing I remember much was Data using his android speed and strength to take on a bunch of Jem Hadar. Teenage Shermos thought that would have been cool to see on screen.

Description

USS Enterprise, under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, leads the Federation fleet during the final liberation of Betazed in 2375.

The Dominon's attack on Betazed late in 2374 had been an unmitigated disaster for the Federation. Not only had Starfleet's Tenth Fleet, assigned to defend Betazed, been caught out of position during a training exercise - allowing the Dominion to bypass them entirely - but Betazed's own defences were completely inadequate to the task of fending off a Dominion assault. Facing confused and ineffective resistance, Jem'Hadar and Cardassian forces were able to gain effective control of the planet in five hours, and had secured the planet and surrounding space entirely in less than ten. Furthermore, the fall of Betazed opened up the Federation's core to attack, leaving Tellar, Andor and even Vulcan within striking range.

In the wake of the disastrous defeat, denying the Dominion the opportunity to launch a major offensive into inner-Federation space became one of Starfleet's highest priorities. The Seventh Fleet, still at half strength following the catastrophic Battle of Tyra, was deployed to intercept the Dominion's supply chains through the nearby Kalandra Sector, while the Second Fleet was assigned to assault the Dominion's positions at Betazed itself. Both fleets took heavy losses over the following months, and although they succeeded in preventing the Dominion from launching another major offensive, they ultimately failed to make significant headway towards retaking Betazed, despite repeated assaults.
