This is a post by one of No Mutants Allowed more upstanding citizens; really one of the better rants I've ever read. It seems fitting for it to be posted here, so anyone downloading this knows exactly what they're getting. There has been slight editing to protect the identity of the original poster, and to protect the feelings of the "charlatan *********" who uploaded this "mod".
Links in post don't appear functional..

Origionally posted on NMA:
"
Yes, people need to be very cautious when downloading from the websites moddb.com and nexusmods.com. There's some charlatan ********* on both sites who seems to be intentionally trying to deceive people by naming some silly little thing he made with the same title [as Fallout Tactics: Redux]... Whether he just wants attention, or whether he thinks it's funny to confuse innocent people into wasting their time I don't know, but either way just be aware what you're downloading and make sure you're getting what you want.

I studied this fraudulently named "mod," and in a download of 22 megabytes with over 1500 files, only 256 files (1.4 mb) are something this fellow might possibly have edited, the rest are just 100 percent original game files. Seriously, he just flat-out repackaged unchanged files from the original game and called it his "mod." He's even got some movies (100 percent unmodified) in there. Whether all this was from some attempt at padding to make people think he did all kinds of work, or whether he's just too ignorant to understand how to make a zip file, who can say. In the case of the 256 files that were in fact edited or changed in some way, for example one is a text file with ONE WORD changed from the original.

Now we might say all this is an innocent mistake, but if you note in the guy's comments section that when RobertHouse suggested he change the name of his project he refused. If the guy was sincere rather than up to no good, he surely would have said "Gosh, sorry. I just didn't realize I named my trivial, mostly plagiarized fileset with the same title as one of the most popular Fallout Tactics mods in history. I'll change the name to something else, because that's the right thing to do."

Everyone should be clear on the point that all this has absolutely nothing to do with RobertHouse, who has the simple and admirable goal of just trying to archive everything ever made for Fallout Tactics, regardless of what it is-- or isn't.

For those looking to get... Fallout Tactics Redux via modlaucher, the correct links are:

Manual install.
Automated install.

You'll also have to download the Mod Launcher base files (the program itself).

Mod Launcher is easy to use, but if for some reason you had a compatibility issue or didn't want to use it you could download the "manual install" version of FOT Redux, unzip the download, and just move the files into the right spot in your game directory.

Thanks for taking the time to repost, it's much obliged. Since I don't have an account on NMA I'll respond here and try to follow point-by-point as closely as possible to make sure I don't miss anything.

"Yes, people need to be very cautious when downloading from the websites moddb.com and nexusmods.com."
First off, moddb and nexusmods are the most reliable distribution hubs I've encountered in the last decade and a half, and I don't think it's fair to sully them when they're only a distribution platform.

"There's some charlatan ********* on both sites who seems to be intentionally trying to deceive people by naming some silly little thing he made with the same title [as Fallout Tactics: Redux]... Please no name-calling, it's very mean :^(. As for the name of the mod and the reasoning (or lack there of) behind it, I'll detail it in length at the end of the comment.

"I studied this fraudulently named "mod," and in a download of 22 megabytes with over 1500 files, only 256 files (1.4 mb) are something this fellow might possibly have edited, the rest are just 100 percent original game files. I'd like to invoke Hanlon's razor here. The simple reason for this is that I'm a complete novitiate at FO:Tactics modding, and wanted to avoid any bugs where possible. Quite frankly, I have no idea how the game operates, the whole project was made by making a copy of the (iirc) "core" folder and adjusting it in the editor. There are a lot of unmodified files from vanilla because 1. by and large I don't know which files are and aren't modified 2. the total size (incl. vanilla files) is insubstantial, so better to err on the side of caution.

"Everyone should be clear on the point that all this has absolutely nothing to do with RobertHouse, who has the simple and admirable goal of just trying to archive everything ever made for Fallout Tactics, regardless of what it is-- or isn't."
This is 100% correct and I wish RobertHouse only the best in his work.

Now, as for the issue of the name. I first learned about the Fallout Tactics: Redux mod when RobertHouse called it to my attention in the comment cited in this post. I thought it a non-issue and that the word difference "Fallout Tactics: Redux" vs. "Tactics: Redux" was enough. Clearly I was wrong, or the above would never need to be posted.

Also I want to call attention to my original response to RobertHouse's first comment, specifically:
"And no, this isn't an UL of someone else's work, I did everything on the mod from scratch."
In retrospect this was misleading, so I'll clarify:
The entire mod is comprised of original, unmodified game files and/or those I have changed or otherwise altered using the game editor. Hopefully this clears things up a bit.

So what happens now? I'll rename the mod here on moddb (and nexusmods possible) and update the files so it's abundantly clear that my mod is unrelated. And to anyone who downloaded my mod thinking that it was Fallout Tactics: Redux I apologize for the confusion.

Finally, a message to the original poster. Why couldn't you have sent a message or posted a comment here as well? I don't give a damn about feelings, if there's something wrong I'd like to know so I can fix it.

I noticed your launch_redux.bat looks like this:

"<enter_your_game_filepath_here>\Fallout Tactics\BOS.exe" -path redux

This will also work if both the BAT and folder are in the Fallout Tactics folder and the BATs name is redux.bat

BOS.exe -path redux

You probably know this already, just making sure.

Your mod has been added to the list of compatible mods for my Mod Launcher V2.1 Moddb.com

Hoping tomorrow V2.1 will get finished and released.

Also is this mod still in development?

There is already a Fallout Tactics Redux mod made by Endocore.

Nma-fallout.com

Falloutmods.wikia.com

You might want to change the name or if your just uploading this because Redux was not on Mod DB you might want to add a proper description and proper credits.

Always nice to see another project on Mod DB.

That's an unfortunate coincidence, but I stand by the project name. The lack of a "Fallout" at the beginning should be sufficient distinction.

And no, this isn't an UL of someone else's work, I did everything on the mod from scratch.
