SMOD TACTICAL: Project Life V2

After some extensive testing, I was able to bring SMOD Tactical: Project Life back to a working state. The file may be a bit bloated because of SMOD Redux, but so far everything works. I fixed this by merging both SMOD Redux 10 (which is Steampipe compatible) and Project Life. The result was astounding. This file also comes packed with the necessary CSS files.

SMOD: Tactical

Reintroducing one of the most brutal, yet rewarding mods for Half Life 2: SMOD: Tactical. This mod is not for the faint of heart, and can kick your ass if you don't pay attention. This changes the "Run and Gun" style of Half-Life 2 to a more careful approach, checking corners and making sure the area is clear before proceeding. Enemies have much higher accuracy and can kill you with one well-placed headshot. However, the same applies to them. Weapon arsenal has been expanded to include real-life weaponry, including, but not limited to, the Kimber .45, Colt M4A1 with variants, and the Benelli M3 Super.

This mod utilizes SMOD's features for a more immersive experience: HUD is limited to ammo count and health regenerates overtime (This can be disabled), armor will help block shots, but once it's out, you'd better find cover. The kick's power has been reduced to a more realistic degree, and can help save your life when faced in CQC. You can lean around corners without fully exposing yourself to enemy fire.

Current Plans

Revision 2 will be the finalized version. When time becomes available, Revision 3 will be available as an optional download.

Revision 3 will try to reduce the filesize as much as possible, as well as add custom sounds for the weapons, and add a few rebalances, such as more predictable recoil patterns, akin to games such as Insurgency and Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Known Issues

- The cs_office, cs_assault, and the custom hostage maps are incompatable at the moment.

DOWNLOAD REVISION 2! IT FIXES MOST CURRENTLY-KNOWN BUGS! Thanks to russiantux for helping me find the bugs.

Credits

I do not take credit for SMOD, SMOD Tactical: Project Life, or SMOD Tactical. They belong to their respective owners. I just uploaded this to satisfy people who loved the original SMOD Tactical. Get these fantastic mods here:

Hi guys,

I know it's been quite a while since the last update. Hell, a lot has happened since then: I've gotten a new computer, a full time job, and completed school. Anyway, I'll skip the formalities: Another mod, by the name of SMOD: Tactical REDUX, has recently come out, and, to no one's surprise, is actually a more complete version without a lot of the headache of this mod.

I highly recommend downloading that mod over this one.

Thank you to all who have downloaded and played, and sorry for not updating sooner. To be quite honest, I forgot entirely about this mod until recently.

I apologize for the complete inactivity on both my and Russiantux's part, but we thank you for helping bring this mod back from the dead! We hope the mod continues to thrive under other, more talented modders who actually know how to mod properly.

tl;dr: we don't have access to the original source code at the moment, so most gamebreaking bugs are un-fixable at the moment.

How to properly install SMOD (Tactical [1.0, Redux, 5.56, ProjectLifev2]) to prevent texture errors and crashes

1. Run Half-life 2 (and other required games for [whatever SMOD you're installing]) and Source SDK Base 2006 if you haven't already (AT LEAST ONCE!).

2. Unpack the [whatever SMOD you're installing].rar wherever you want.

*3a. Install "SMODStandalone_install.exe" and "SMODStandalone_CSS_addon.exe" from the official forums: Bsnooch.com

3b. Move the "SMODStandalone_install.exe" and "SMODStandalone_CSS_addon.exe" into your sourcemods folder
*If there is not a folder there already, create one called "sourcemods". -- Path --> C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/sourcemods

4. Run the SMODStandalone_install.exe and follow its instructions until it finishes.

5. Run the SMODStandalone_CSS_addon.exe and follow its instructions.

*5a. To fix any texture/asset issues, it is recommended to OVERWRITE the files in the Smod Standalone's CSSBase (*that you had just installed) with the CSSBase from the Redux: Moddb.com
*5b. You may also then apply an additional texture fix provided by user Onemanshow to address the issue where "Valve updated CSS to use orange box engine, they also added some detail textures from EP2 that don't work in the 2006 engine due to VTF version crap.":

SMOD REDUX AFTER THESE FIXES: Cdn.discordapp.com

6. Navigate to the newly created SMOD folder under sourcemods, and then to the mods folder. -- Path --> C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/sourcemods/Smod Standalone/mods

7. Extract the "[whatever SMOD you're installing].rar" into the mods folder.

8. Run the "Smod Stanalone.exe" to launch the game and test it. Feel free to make a shortcut to this file, as it will be how you launch the game from here on.

9. That's it!

Whenever I try to play hostage rescue the hostage dies as soon as the game starts and I lose. Is there any known fix for this?

I downloaded this mod today, it's great and all but very hard! I got used to it after a few moments and I quite like the "Mini Episodes." The game has helped me in aiming properly and best of all... It's free and runs well on slower PCs! I recommend this mod to each and every player wanting a harder challenge for Half-life 2.

Some extra information: I have found one massive bug, You cannot pick up some weapons off the ground and if you pick up a Glock, you won't be able to pick up a different pistol. This meant that I couldn't pick up the AK-47 at all and some other weapons. You also might say, "but what if you just drop the gun you don't want and get the other one?" The thing is, I can't pick them up at all.
