The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
Also known as the Badassspeeder (for speeding over all of badassery), this versatile and rugged machine now has the makeover that it hopefully deserves. Function is the same as it has always been...
This is...amazing! The level of detail is astonishing, great work!
Man, that deserves indeed the name of a Badassspeeder. The texture on it looks so sharp and detailed, I can't even believe it. Damn amazing work!
You sure the game engine will work. I feel like the models are gonna crash the game. That's how much they're amazing!
90% of the pictures I upload are rendered with the game engine via the ALO viewer. I test all models in-game asap as well. Haven't encountered any issues yet :)
This engine the game runs on can support many thousands of polies on just 1 model you just need a good pc to run it, but from what i can tell that most likely isn't even over 1k and looks really damn good.
It's just over 800 verts. The highest poly unit I've incorporated so far is just under 2k verts and it has no negative impact on the game whatsoever.
Like you said, the only real limitation is the power of your PC.
EaW is pretty old, if your computer cant handle what it's engine is capable of it probably needs upgrading anyway :P
Yes and no...but mostly yes. Lol. Most modern machines should be able to run it flawlessly...barring issues related to my post below about processors.
Masterpiece.
Thank you all!
Side post... If any modders out there know how/if animations can be added to units with the "flying" locomotor, I would love to know! I really want to give this turn animations that cause the flaps to lift and lower accordingly...but animations don't seem to work on flying units.
You should be able to get that to work. There's a mod called Strategic Improvement that has a Snow Speeder model with moving flaps. It's in the most recent version on this site. Forum.reseau-js.com It's a French site.
I'll give it a look. Thanks!
I downloaded and installed the mod but it didn't seem to have anything related to the Snowspeeder in it...
On the topic of game performance that someone else brought up, is there any way to force the game to use my CPU and GPU to their full potential? My AMD 8-core and GeForce 680 seem to be massively underutilized by EAW which ends in less-than 30FPS space battles most of the time. :(
This is one area that I am not an expert but I can say that the game was design very poorly in terms of processor utilization and it's an issue that I've even emailed Petro about directly. My conversation with them lasted all of 3 emails and then the representative dropped off the face of the earth...
The game has issues with non-Intel processors and again with any processor that would be considered "modern." Essentially, there was a list compiled of all acceptable processors and the engine was given instructions for how to handle graphics for each type listed. Any processor that isn't on that list is left to guesswork, which usually results in poor performance, missing or disabled shaders, etc.
When I asked if there was a fix or workaround...I never got a reply.
Well, that sucks. I wonder if Petroglyph's willingness to address the problem would be different now that Lucas Arts no longer exists. After LA shut down, Raven Software released the source code for Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, so one could hope Petro might have at least a tenth of that generosity now that they are free from restrictions regarding EAW.
Might be worth a shot. From what I've heard others say, they are typically unresponsive...
Hm, maybe it will change up until the game Vol'talkes may be released. It's based on the same engine as Empire at War and is made by the guys who made Awakening of the Rebellion and Steiner's Advanced Units in the glory old days. There is also the possibility to fully implement your EaW mods completely to Vol'talkes as they say. It's like a massive enhanced, modding friendly EaW without Star Wars theme. Sounds interestingly enough for me to follow the development phase. If you're interested: Everythingeaw.com and Facebook.com and finally Nomada's post about it with some very first images: Moddb.com
Coincidentally, at the time I am writing this, they're uploading a first tech-demo, so you guys may test it for yourselves.
Very cool. Also Badassspeeder is an awesome word (triple s ftw).
"Function is the same as it has always been...". Damn, I was hoping you were going to make them fire bursts of 10 proton torpedoes every 2 seconds. Seriously though, amazing job, you would think you were a professional game designer the way your work is going!
I'm flattered. Thank you!
Awesome work Far, could use some dirt/scorch marks, but damn awesome nonetheless
Well done man :)
There are dirt and scratches on it but I plan to add damage alts that will increase the amount of damage/burns as it loses life.
There are not words enough to praise your skill, the_Farseer. This product of your awesome skills is beyond any eloquence to describe.
Thanks! As always.
THAT is how a T-47 should look :D
So, how much are you willing to take for this beaut? I wouldn't mind a new ride, even if it's used. Just imagine the places I could go with this ride!
Although, I am wondering. Will it still have just the tow cable ability? I think a power to engines/speed boost ability might be useful.
For cutting down trip time, of course.
A short Power to Engines might be doable... That's the ability it had in Rouge Squadron/Leader/Rebel Strike, after all.
:)
Cool. I think that will help give it more use, unless the AI will use more AT-ATs?
...There's another vehicle that would be great for getting around.
