With the art for the Yuri faction nearing completion and the current build resembling a playable RTS, we have decided to address the RA3 environments. Over the last few days we have posted and removed numerous attempts at toning down RA3 to fit Yuri more, but finally we think we have hit the jackpot!

Here's a video of an updated skirmish match with the ever evolving Yuri faction and modified post effects!


All of the above use C&C 4 (and one C&C 3) volume textures (map filters). The question is, what do you think? Yea, or Yea Nay?


On a side note, I just finished rendering a batch of Synergy and Frontline assets in a template that was in no way inspired by the C&C 4 renders! Here's a small sample, there are atleast a dozen more!

Your models seem quite nice but your textures...
In the screenshots you see Yuri objects having a tough time. They look like a 2d sprite because of the textures clearly not having mipmaps and the undersampling results in aliasing.
Also in the video they look like black blobs of goo. The texture is way too dark and doesn't define any shape. The outline is really good because of the model but the texture is just way too dark. If you check with YR itself you will notice there is much more gold and some silver used to get a good shape defining look. (Also your lookup table doesn't help a bit, I wouldn't recomment taking these from other games as TW in this case and just slapping them on, rather create your own)

Textures are fine,I think it's the new lighting thats making Yuri's dark structures and units bit more harder to see :P

I am pretty sure they'll look way better in game.

Uh I am talking about the in game stuff.
And it doesn't have anything to do with lighting.
Even on older screenshots the textures are grainy (aliasing) and too dark.

To be a bit clearer: textures need a bit more contrast to really create shapes. As it is now it is much more just color then helping to define an object. It is mostly a black/brown/goldbrown form of mud.
That is also the reason why the original EA models work on every setting. They were made to work like that.

I'm going through and re-exporting all of the textures to .dds with different settings to make it more blurry from a distance, throwing a tiny amount of reflection on the spec maps and updating the diffuses with a wee bit more contrast.

EDIT: Restored karma and I'll post the results of this batch of fixes when I get a build of them.

Yuri's structures seem to absorbing light rather then reflect it like the other factions :P

No! NO! You do not use anything from C&C 4! EVER!

...Just kidding. Personally, I think it's best you decide which is better. Though I have to admit the water shot looks a bit murky, probably could use a little more light or something to look at.

Toned down the volume texture too so it's more of a C&C 4 RA3 mix

SignNapse, u know how when u play skirmish and u desrover enemy units the minimap changes with lissete or something "fancy meeting u here blah blah blah" what will it have when u verse yuri?
