New EU assets : Castello Skyshield and Gladiator DCA image - Red Alert 20XX mod for C&C: Yuri's Revenge
Welcome to Red Alert 20XX. The aim of this mod is to pay tribute to old Command & Conquer games, while giving YR a fresh feel in a brand new cold war context.
The Castello Skyshield, jointly developped by France, Spain, Italy and Greece, is the ultimate anti-air defense system. With high range, high damage and high area of effect, it can enforce a complete no-fly zone for enemy aircrafts. Plus, like other upgraded Allied units, it sports a high-tech sonic missile interceptor for close-range defenses. However, is it quite expensive, compared to the Aeroblazer that it replaces, cannont target flying or paradropping infantries and has a four second lock-on delay before it can fire at a target. The beeping sound caused by this lock-on system is probably the last thing enemy pilot will hear, though.
The fact that the Castello replaces the Aeroblazer means that the Cerberus MLRS has been shelved for another subfaction.
Behind the Castello is the Gladiator DCA; it is a T1 anti-infantry defense system unique to the EU which replaces the common Pillbox. It does about the same amount of damage, but will damage multiple infantries on a same cell. Also, it can inflict minimal damage to airborne targets. This upgrade comes at a cost : the Gladiator is costlier than the Pillbox and require power to operate.
The Castello Skyshield was made by Crazy Bird, and the Gladiator DCA by MigEater.
I'm going to get crucified for saying this, but it does come from a place of love for the Euro's and this mod as a whole, but the Gladiator DCA is butt-ugly, [the structure; I like the weapon FX] and im saddened that its replacing the classic, iconic-looking 'box. The Castello is nice though I suppose.
I won't crucify you :P Can you tell me want you dislike about the Gladiator? Is it the concept it is based off or the quality of the model?
For me it's the quality of the model. The cylinder on top doesnt look smooth/round enough (I guess it's based on Phalanx CIWS) and there is a visible angle between the autocannon and the projectiles when shooting air.
EDIT: Otherwise concept is extremely good.

I would need to see that ingame (not a demand of course) but that does look like a marked improvement.
