PLEASE NOTE PATCHES WITH CODE CHANGES WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY ON EXISTING SAVES
Changelog is as follows:
- swapped quickload and restart keys when you die based on feedback
- fixed E3M6 exit not opening on easy skill
- optimized E2M8 bsp to have way less tris to help with FPS issues
- added more ammo to E2M8
- updated E3M8 to have more cover and a bit more ammo
- replaced statue knight model with AD version for performance in large mobs
- fixed e1m1 scripted sequence issue on easy where a quake marine dies but nobody kills him
- updated shambler footstep earthquake effect so it doesn't launch you into the air on low grav maps
- fixed some missing sound precaches
- slowed down the fireballs of chthon's fire spit attack and also gave it an extra frame of chargeup time
- updated UI slider, smallest position is now smaller for 4k resolutions
- improved RTLights on E2M8 and E3M8
if you haven't tried Quake 1.5 - just do it. The best Quake experience to-date.

Not sure if this is related, but I have been having a serious problem with blinding lights in various maps, even with this patch. All of the secret levels seem to do this, and some of the episode 2 levels as well and it makes the levels unplayable.
It's because Quake's light system uses 0 - 255 for rgb colors and darkplaces uses a scale of 0 - 1 instead. I haven't made rtlights for the maps outside of the glows on lights because the system in general isn't very well optimized, you'd have to download an rtlights pack to fix it if you want to play with them enabled
Honestly the mod was never designed with them in mind though, i didn't expect so many people to use rtlights
It was enabled by default on a fresh install. Do you recommend turning it off or using the pack?
I recommend turning it off as they drop performance pretty significantly, and the map changes were made with baked lighting in mind. I'll probably do a full RTlight pass once I iron out more of the existing bugs
If your computer can run it you can try one of the existing RTLight packs (I think there was a new one recently?) but my PC always struggled with those even with pretty top hardware.
Thanks for the answer. I had to fiddle around with the settings to figure out which one was causing it, disabling RTWorld made it go away.
Perhaps remove them from the pk3 and have a config that sets the lighting to the default Quake light settings?
Does this patch also fix the issue with the skybox appearing on the surface of the water at specific angles?
Not yet, i might upload vispatched bsps as a separate file though. Either that or take away transparent water as a temp fix

I noticed that after installing "patch2" the "UI scale" doesn't save. I've put the slider to the middle but when I close the game and restart it again the slider will be all the way to the right (smallest). When I close it again and restart it the slider is back all the way to the left (biggest). What can I do to make the game remember the UI scale I want (slider in the middle)?
Please ignore the UI scale problem. It was an old config file inside my Quake 1.5 folder that was messing things up. After deleting it everything worked as intended.

I had an old "config.cfg" file inside my "quake15" folder that was overwriting stuff. After deleting it all worked fine.
The actual "config.cfg" that the mod uses can be found in "C:\Users\Your Username\Saved Games\darkplaces\quake15".

DarkPlaces will load .vis files, overriding the compiled vis.
I'm playing on Android dark places latest version from Google play, I'm missing some stuff, water and portals don't display and ammo icons don't display on the HUD. Any clues?

Been considering getting this for the mobile version too, but I wasn't aware of these bugs. Hopefully we'll get an answer for it.

You made a BADASS mod dude, on top of an already legendary game! I haven't played it enough to identify bugs. Only some of E1M1 and all of E2M1. Just to try it...then the enjoyment kept me going to finish the second map. It's like all the Brutal Dooms! ******* awesome!

Awesome mod. Congratulations, man. I have 2 questions:
1) Have you considered supporting FTEQW ? Darkplaces is a great engine, but FTEQW supports pretty much all its extensions and have a much faster renderer;
2) Do you intend to release the QuakeC source code ?
1) i do, right now there's a few crashes with FTE so I wanted to fix as many DP bugs as I can before tackling those
2) yep, I want to finish a FGD for mappers to use first so I can release them concurrently
How do I even install this? The instructions say to drag, drop and replace in your root quake folder, but I don't seem to have the maps/progs/scripts folders in my root quake folder from when I initially installed this mod, so I can't replace anything. Am I supposed to? Are these new and you're not supposed to? What the hell am I supposed to do?
Drop all the content of your "Dark Places" folder, into your main Quake folder.
Then drop the folder (including its content) "Quake 1.5" into your main Quake folder.
Double click the batch file to start.
Any patches, just apply those to the "Quake 1.5" folder - the items will be overwritten in that location.

! HUGE props on the boss levels and the new E2 secret level, most creative ive seen in some time.
Question tho: how do you get the prox mines to work? Are they a separate ammo type, or a different button? Also, i saw what looked like a grappling hook in the trailer. Is that in the campaign, or just for multiplayer?
I simply wanted to say a big THANKYOU to all involved with this brilliant mod - just WOW! Marveling at all the little touches throughout. Doesn't change the Quake 'vibe' at all in my opinion - but adds a truck load of stuff (that can't be an easy goal to achieve).
Plays great on my old core2duo rig with an AMDHD5850. (All I had to do was set lighting to "Normal").

Hi, i love this mod but i still don't know the keys to perform a kick, a grenade throw and using the flashlight. What are the keys to perform these actions?
I love this mod, but I have issues with the Intro level, E1m1, e2m1, e3m1, and e4m1, with the black screen showing the name of the level not dissapearing.
Hey, i had this problem too. After solid amount of trial, error and reading, it turns out that the mod runs normally only on a very specific Darkplaces build.
Strangely enough, the build included in the mod's download doesn't work at all, at least not on my machine.
Following the link in the readme of the mod, i found the one that worked for me.
It is this build : darkplacesengine20170829beta1
After i got it, the mod finally started working.
Still some issues though, like not being able to see the
torches' flame, only the light halo. Awesome mod though,
completely blew me away.

So Like... Hmm.. how do i ask this?? Which one do i use?? The DOS install Folder? or the Windows install Folder? i have a backup of both. Both are a Clean install without anything changed.
Also.. One of my Clean Windows install of Quake has Mission Pack 1 & 2 in it.. Will Quake v1.5 work with either one of the Mission Packs??

Every Fear Hides A Wish
Hi, I installed the mod and the latest patch but it does nothing when I try to run the Run Quake 1.5 batch file. I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong as it's installed in the folder correctly AFAIK.
EDIT: Oh, ignore me, I realized I needed to actually extract the Darkplaces files out of the initial folder. Now it works great! I'll have more detailed commentary later, but suffice it to say while I got into the original Quake late and couldn't get myself to finish it I can't put this mod down, so you're definitely doing something right!
Could you please make the next version work with the Pretty Water mod? Not really digging these cubemap reflections.
I have a problem with the rain and blood particles. they're encased in a black box. the particles are there, you can see them, but their is a box around it.
I have this same problem! Well, not the exact same, but it's like the blood and rain are covered by a shadows and the only way I can see them is if I shine the flashlight on it. I'll try reinstalling, see if it fixes the problem.
I can't use ladders for some reason, am i missing something?I just installed the mod and everything works fine except ladders.
Read the message the game will give you when you reached the first ladder in the game after picking the difficulty.

Is there a way to naturally enter the bonus levels e2m9 and e3m9, or only by typing their names in the console? And what about episode 5?

I downloaded this today, and I downloaded the patch as well. When I try and run it from the .bat file it launches but there is no menu and some of the textures are missing. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help would be greatly appreciated
I had a problem with missing textures as well. Here's what I did wrong, maybe this will help you:
When I unzipped the "Quake 1.5 Single-Player Beta 1" zip file into my Quake folder, I failed to move the Quake15 folder directly into my Quake folder.
To correct this, I moved the quake15 folder from the "Quake 1.5 Single-Player Beta 1" zip directly into the Quake folder. The computer will ask you if you want to over-write: CLICK YES
Then, copy the Quake15 folder from "Quake 15 SP Beta patch 2" into your Quake folder, and, again, OVER-WRITE the original. As far as I know, you do not need the patch 1 file now that patch 2 is out.
The "Quake 1.5 Single-Player Beta 1" zip has the textures that were missing. The "Quake 15 SP Beta patch 2" will replace SOME of the files, but not all of them.
Whenever I start map e1m2, there's a big black line at the very start of the map, and after progressing a bit it gets worse with these lines blocking areas of the map. I redownloaded the main files and patches but still have the same problem.
what console command actually connects to ui scale? It won't save.

Got missing textures on maps, and the lift that you use in the start map to get to episode 1 is just plain missing, like it didn't spawn in at all. What do?
I have problem with UI scaling on this version. After loading any map the setting is resetting to default. I checked this on Dark Places delivered with first version of the mod and later with version from August 2017.
How to add patch 2??
Open the patch 2 zip file. Click on the Quake15 folder inside the zip file, and move it into your Quake folder. Overwrite and replace the original quake15 folder.
The ui scale never saves. even if i do the fix shown by berzerk.
Do I need to download patch 1 as well to run this?
