Description

Over the past decade or so, most technological developments amongst Western Coalition nations have been catalysed by the ongoing conflict with the Eurasian Dominion, and particularly brought forward by WARD (Warfare Advances & Research Department), an agency overseen by the Coalition military established for one main endeavour, Project Arbiter, the ultimate aim of which was to develop countermeasures against the Dominus mind control technology used by the Dominion. While the project has not yet yielded any widely applicable results, there have been numerous breakthroughs and discoveries made during the process, some of which have useful military & defense applications. Amongst the latter is Seraph shield generator technology, a result of a partnership between WARD and French defense contractor Rubicon Defense Systems.

Almost as if ripped from the pages of a science fiction novel, the Seraph system allows the generator to create a force shield of sorts around a suitably sized structure or vehicle, all attempts to apply the technology on infantrymen or small drones have failed thus far. This shield repels attempts to damage the structure or vehicle, although enough time and firepower will eventually break the shield, despite the fact that the generator replenishes the shield's strength and can, given enough time, restore a broken shield as well. However, if moved outside the generator's range, the shield will relatively rapidly lose integrity and will eventually break even on its own. Besides that, the Seraph system also has one major flaw stemming from a technical limitation - the shield cannot be applied on the generator itself. Currently Coalition military commanders can only deploy stationary Shield Generators in sparse numbers due to manufacturing costs and power constraints, there however is a rumour that Rubicon Defense Systems is working on a mobile variant that might eventually see use on the battlefields as well.
