Long ago, when the word 'Hiigara' rang only as a hollow dream, the kiith of Kharak never imagined they would walk the Path to Victory. But, when they reclaimed their Homeworld and proclaimed themselves 'Hiigaran', they believed they had reached their goal. How wrong they were. 150 years after Hiigaran landfall, conflict rages across the Galaxy... Path to Victory is a multiplayer and skirmish mod for Homeworld 2 that adds new units to both Vaygr and Hiigaran Races as well as enabling the Keepers, Raiders and Kadeshi as playable races.
Yes, yes the texture is still a little messed up. It will be fixed ;)
Anyways, that comment aside, I am presenting the Vaygr Hyperspace Bouy. Now, what does it do?
You see, the Vaygr have a problem with hyperspace. Without a far jump core they can't go very far with a ship-internal hyperdrive. So how do they move large fleets across the galaxy? Right, they set up Hyperspace Boueys they can orient themselves by.
With the Faction reworks im progress, the way the Vaygr select their faction has been changed. When the game starts for the Vaygr, they get a hyperspace bouey, a bunch of resourcers and two refineries.
They also have two research options: Raider Doctrine or Invasion Doctrine. Depending on which one you research, you will be able to hyperspace in a Flagship or an Invasion Carrier (shipyard) from the hyperspace bouey and voilĂ , without even noticing it, you chose your faction.
It's worth noting this actually DOES work with the AI. They build up like normal... only limitation is they only choose one option but hell, it works and I'm happy...
Hope you are too...
P.s. I hope someone realizes which concept art this is based on - and then realizes it is not intended to look identical to the concept art ;)
Looking forward to seeing how the higs and the keepers choose their factions......
im a lil confused, are the boueys suppose to be a new hyperspace gate that uses one or two ships to operate correctly?
Think of it like the other bouey is off the map, back at some big vaygr staging area. When the game starts you get the second bouey on the battlefield.
Essentially you're 'building' your mothership, no real gate-like functionality ingame at all. But the idea is that if it were real, you would be 'hyperspacing' your mothership to the bouey.
So what happens to this thing when the "mothership" arrives?
Does it retreat off the map or does it stay, waiting for someone to destroy it?
it would be nice if the bouey HS out of the map when you choose the race, to help another vaygr player :)
At the moment it stays, allowing the Vaygr to replace ther flagship/invasion carrier when it is lost (makes the vaygr a little tougher to beat as you have to find and destroy this thing before you can really get them).
Theoretically you could have it HS out again (with some scripting I assume) but I really don't think it would be that practical.
It stays, ok, but can you move it?
Yes you can move it (counts as a frigate by size) but you cannot hyperspace or replace it.
I like it, great idea and looks good.

Was that the inspiration?
Indeed. I don't think anyone ever made a model from that art and then used it. Figured it was about time...
Yea for sure!
Some models got made at some stage a few years ago (possibly by Whisper2Me?, bah can't remember), but I don't think they got in-game.
Looks like an old concept of the vaygr listening post. Only this one is dual, not triple.
Well, that is what inspired the idea.
