It was stupid to see M4 using 9x19 pistol ammo in the original game.
M4 (5.56x45) replaces MP-5 (9x19) in HD pack for HL, OF and BS.
Real life 5.56 pistols are fugly as hell. Though it would be nice to see it use the same ammo as the M249,however there would be two versions of the same map.
Why is it stupid? The m4a1 can be chambered in 9mm in reality...
Although the 9mm M4-variant kinda look stupid and probably no military group would use an assaultrifle chambered such weak cartridges.

Unlike Gearbox's Opposing Force, it should use 5.56x45mm NATO rounds, which M249 also shoot it.
Speaking of M249 SAW, it will have a big differences from the original: more better 775 RPM, 200-round belt instead of incorrect 50-round belt, and an overheat feature. Epic, right?
Marines actually use the Colt SMG
I served 4 years in the Marine Corps infantry, we never used anything smaller than the M4. Even the recon and marsoc grunts only used M4s. I have never seen any marine personnel using any form of sub machine gun. I have seen airmen, soldiers, and navy personnel use them.
Also the M4 makes just as good a CQB weapon as does the Mp5. More stopping power than the 9mm. Roughly same firing rate, and an manageable recoil. Not to mention the M4 is only seven inches longer than the mp5, making it effective at range as well.
That being said, the mp5 is a weapon used by special forces. It may have been used in Force Recon at one point, but that program within the marines has been disbanded since the 90's. I believe the new entity that has filled that role is call MARSOC(marine special operations command), and though they use a whole slew of weapons that use standard grunst don't get to play with to my knowledge they do not use the mp5 or any SMG variant for that matter.
But I don't expect civilians to get it right all the time when it comes to video games and what not. THe mp5 worked well in the original HL. I'd like to see a remake true to the original, and a remake based out of more realism...but thats just me.
i once saw a video of a marine in fallujah using an mp5 for some reason (2nd battle i believe) but ive also never seen seen marines using glocks, or spaz 12s, or desert eagles, but hey i agree civilians dont always get it right and marsoc does what they please as far as regs go
These aren't marines, they're Hazardous Environment Combat Units.
Well that doesn't really matter,considering the fact that the HECU in Half-Life 1,Opposing Force,Blue Shift,Operation: Black Mesa and Guard Duty have some type of finger-less gloves,rolled up sleeves and berets. Not to mention gas masks. I don't know what purpose any of those fulfill,particularly the gas masks. But I guess the arsenal has to make some sense.
agreed this M4 would have been better off as a separate higher tier weapon for the HECU and black ops :/ Least then its ammo would be the same as the M249.
Also the M249 would make a great mini boss weapon kinda like the old cut Sargent & mini gun models from half lifes beta days.
The same goes for the HD packs Beretta 92FS it would make so much more sense if the Beretta was used by the HECU and the Glock would remain for BM security ...
The MP5 always seemed to be more of a Black Mesa weapon for their Xen exploration teams to me.
MP5 should fit Black Ops since it's a close quarter rapid firing weapon. Also MP5 is good to assault Black Mesa since the distances are not so big in the complex, so SMG is sufficent to kill scientists and security. But M4 should fit for open areas.

The MP5 with grenade launcher was part of the Half-Life world. Same with the over-use of Osprey helicopters. If both models will be of the same quality, I'll stick with the MP5.

Oh, thank god. For a minute there, I thought the M4 was the default. Don't get me wrong; it looks great, I just prefer the MP5.
Easy fix for this problem, just give the mp5 its own ammo, there, now if you use the M4 it wont use 9mm :P Also curious on what style of muzzle flash the m4 will have, would like to see a five or six star muzzle flash pattern, I think the four style flash is a little overused, mostly blame counterstrike for that.. That and the m4 model's flash hider has more than 4 slots in it hehe.
I'd prefer both weapon in OBM ) MP5 the same as it is now in BMS, submachine gun, killing marines of one clip. And M4A1 - as power rifle ) It would be more interesting.

Though looking back at one of your previous releases, you had an MP5+M203 plus a suppressed MP5. Any chance we may see a suppressed M4 (or some variant with SOPMOD Block 1 parts), or is that dependent on the modeler?
you wont be able to see supressed M4. We will however definitelly use supressed glock for black ops females
