The Mish Mash Map Mod is a graphical modification to Victoria II. I began work on it in 2015, combining some of the .dds files of CountryColors and CoolMapMod, plus CptRobau's font mod, with my own tweaks. I also played with the vanilla political overlay, inverting the colors of the colormap_political.dds file to make land pop a bit more compared to vanilla. I also used the colormap.dds file to provide some soft terrain features on the political map, though this was low resolution and I always wanted to improve it. I also changed up the border opacity a bit. Unfortunately, college got in the way and I dropped work on this. In 2019, with more time on my hands I set to work on improving this mod once again. I got into the shader files of Victoria II and coaxed the much higher fidelity terrain effects as visible in the terrain map mode to bleed through into the political map to give it a bit more life. This has been circulating for a while, but I figured a more accessible home on moddb was long overdue. Enjoy!

Moddb Release!

News

I often feel bad about seeing people ask in r/victoria2 and r/paradoxplaza "What map mod is this?" I didn't do a very good job of actually RELEASING the mod, and instead just dropped a mega link in a reddit thread every now and then. So, I've decided to finally get things together and release it here. I'll be releasing different version of the mod - the combined shaders and .dds files, as well as the shaders alone for those who would like to repurpose them. The great thing about the shaders is that they only apply their effect based on the actual terrain that makes up the map - it's just a part of the graphics pipeline. So it should work for anything! The combined files should also be okay, but there may be some spots where bodies of water on the colormap_political.dds don't quite line up where they're supposed to depending on the mod. In the future, I will likely just not attempt to match up bodies of water since mods will always be changing anyway, and opt to remove any spots corresponding to tiny, inland bodies of water on the colormap_political. This means inland water may look a bit darker, but it's a much more portable and visually negligible fault than unsightly spots.

Anyway, here's how to install the mod:

Combined

  • Download MMMM Full
  • Unzip the MishMashMapMod folder and the MishMashMapMod.mod file to you Victoria 2/mod folder
  • Turn on /MishMashMapMod/ in the launcher

Just the Shaders

  • Download MMMM Shaders
  • Unzip the MMMMShader folder and the MMMMShader file to your Victoria 2/mod folder
  • Turn on MMMMShader in the launcher

I am not currently planning this, but if enough people ask for it, I still have the older versions of Mish Mash Map Mod if people prefer the legacy terrain effects and can host that here as well.

Look, at the moment I have a somewhat old computer, which runs the game enough to play in America or Asia, but when trying to play with Prussia or some European nation, it wanders but can not. Do you know how to remove trees, replace 3D textures / Map details, cities, ports, among other things that cause the delay? CK2 has this option in settings.txt, but Vic2 does not. I would quite like a couple of tips.

Interesting tools to solve this, but honestly, when it comes to crashes related to victoria II, you would be better off buying a new computer considering it is a very light game

In the future I will buy it. I lowered the resolution and improved a lot. I only have to know how to remove trains, cities and fortresses from the map to fix the delay a little more. I would appreciate it if you knew how to do it.
