Medieval Kingdoms: Total War is a total conversion of Total War: Attila with brings the game to the high middle ages, set in the starting year of 1212 AD going until 1453 AD. This mod will completely revamp the game with new factions, units and much much more! (Yes this is the same mod team as for the Rome 2 version.)
Work in Progress, We are currently adding factions to the database and startpos step-by-step.
For your information, there are UI limitations: Max 11 Faction Groups (more than that it'll go offscreen), with 6 to 7 Factions per Group (7 is actually bit forced, some of the edges of the button would slip under the Faction Leader screen).
Note that we chose for the faction grouping to be determined in Geographical Region rather than Cultural Grouping. This choice was taken to maximize playable factions. This kind of grouping might feels awkward since there are factions from different culture bundled together; but if we took Cultural Grouping approach, then many factions have to be sacrificed. For Regional Grouping to work, the Cultural Group Traits are not used, so the Faction traits are based entirely on the individual Faction's traits.
The Faction Traits are also still Work in Progress, the value can be changed on further development.
Can't wait for the campaign to be released!
That "biscione" on the shield it's amazing!
Looks incredibly amazing this will truly be medieval 3
So max 77 starting factions?
Pretty much. As said, 7 per faction is a bit pushing it, but would still work - see the updated picture with 6 faction a group, imagine adding one more. Not all Groups would have 7 factions, most would only have 6.
I counted over 80 factions on the starting factions map in the campaign map thread on TWC, so which factions will be going?
Here's the possible grouping:
North Sea: England, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway
Hispania and North Africa: Aragon, Castille, Navarre, Portugal, Almohad, Marinid, Hafsid
Italia: Sicily, Venice, Genoa, Pisa, Milan, Lombard League, Papal States
Red Sea and Arabia: Ayyubids, Makuria, Zagwe, Oman, Uyyunids, Rasulids
France and Lowlands: France, Burgundy, Toulouse, Flanders, Brabant, Friesland
Germania: HRE, Swiss, Bavaria, Austria, Bohemia, Lorraine, Trier
Balkans: Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Latin Empire, Epirus, Wallachia
Levant and Anatolia: Rum, Jerusalem, Antioch, Cilician Armenia, Niceaea, Trebizond
Steppes: Ilkhanate, Golden Horde, Cumans, Volga Bulgar, Alans
Baltic and East Europe: Poland, Kievan Rus, Lithuania, Teutonics, Ryazan-Murom
Caucasia, Mesopotamia, and Caspia: Georgia, Zengid, Abbasid, Khwarezm, Ghurid, Azerbaizjan
If anyone have better idea without sacrificing non-negotiable must-be-in factions, let me know.
So no Saxony, Brandenburg, Provence, Dauphine, Savoy, seperate Polish and Rus principalities, Greek crusader states or Iranian vassal factions.
Maybe Brandenburg or Saxony could still be added to the North Sea Group, Provence or Dauphine to the French group, Savoy to the Italian group and some of the Polish and Rus states to the Steppe and Baltic areas?
Its hard to cram all of smaller states.
Oh, Lombard is replaced by Bologna just yesterday.
Baltic-East Europe Group still has empty slot. Its either a Baltic faction (Yotvingians), or other Rus Principality. Ryazan-Murom is rather arbitrary toss-up, we just want some Rus faction other than Kievan Rus - that's just because they're later incorporated to the Principality of Muscovy. Chernigov was more important. Too bad the map doesn't include Novgorod, we really want them to be represented.
And Croatia might or might not be incorporated into Hungary, possibly opening other slot in the Balkans.
The Balkans and HRE are hard. Everyone and their grandmother want their faction to be in.
Maybe novgorod can be put as an expedition to punish kiev
I have been following this since day one and as excited as i am for the full campaign release, i have to say just looking at this image i really hope somebody in the future makes a Witcher universe version
Shouldn't "Germania" be "Holy Roman Empire" or "Sacrum Imperium Romanum"?
Because the group do not encompass the entire HRE, as they're more than 7. Some of them spills over to other groups.
That many playable? That seems over-ambitious and like it would drag down overall quality. Go on a diet. Also is there any possibility we could get the pre-battle speech dynamic from shogun 2 but with the medieval speeches or something like that? I want to hear my general talk about faeces and the Lord before each battle to get into the medieval mood.
Have you actually seen the type of quality that this mod's team produces? There is definetely nothing draging down the quality of this mod.
