whats the different from this to the other R6
This is the standard (or original) series. The alternative is the expansion series.
In the description of the Maelstrom mod is a section called "Features of Maelstrom Expansion". In summary, in the expansion series each of the six races has a Dread, there are dangerous asteroids and finally more aggressive pirates. The expansion series has different dynamics compared to the standard series. In the past people have complained about the one or more of the above 'features', for some reasons or another, so I included a 'Expansion' series which contained those additional elements.
I downloaded yesterday the mod, put it into the correct folder. The game displays it in the menu but when i attempt to run it crashes and quits. any idea what kind of problem? Are there any patches required or any updates? I downloaded the v1.193 R6 only.
There are two possibilities
1. Use the recommended graphics settings for Sins
2. There are 12 star types in Maelstrom. Unfortunately in R6 2 of the Stars (Magnetar and Quasar) have abilities that cause a mini-dump on startup. So if you start a map with a single star there is a 1 in 6 chance that it will mini-dump. It is random.
BTW: currently uploading R7, in which the problem has been fixed, also R7 has a lot of improvements. Expect R7 this coming weekend.
