Behold: Insularis Draco! An overhaul of the 2014 gem 'Invasio Barbarorum II: Conquestus Britanniae'. 30 playable factions, four (!) immensely detailed maps of North-Western Europe, covering the period of 355-700 A.D. when tribal migration, plague, climate change and all-out war spelled an end to Antiquity and a new world of 'barbarian' kingdoms rose from the ashes of Empire. The Dark Ages have descended upon the West. 'Times of great trouble and uncertainty offer substantial opportunity, but it is reserved only for those who dare to grasp it. Who will be Bretwalda and who will be Insularis Draco?' Greetings from the modding team (Urbgen, Benfras, Belovèse and PythagoreanBeans) working every day to improve I.D. for you! Today we're publicly welcoming a new Dev Team Member: PythagoreanBeans has joined us to redo ALL battlemap unit models! So far he has redone the Britons, the Anglo-Saxons and the Continental Germanic factions with the help of Urbgen and his new obsession: designing shields. Here's a look at the very promising results, starting with those of the Brittonic factions.

We all knew that, apart from the very inflated economy and the confusing buildings, Insularis Draco's unit models were one of its weakest links. A couple of months ago, though, we got an exciting screenshot from one of our Discord members: PythagoreanBeans. He'd started redoing some of the Roman units for fun and I decided to take him on board! Our first order of business was creating some officers, generals and kings and then we moved on to completing some missing elements from the amazing Roman roster by Fall of Rome's Razor.

We then moved on to Romano-British troops based on Razor's units. These guys look decidedly Roman, so they'll only be available in the 5th century and not after.

Then we moved on to the Brittonic rosters. We decided I should go ahead and make 4 levels of 6 shield designs for the Brit factions and then he'd make full textures for them.
Our resident Briton-expert Benfras looked up some excellent and historically accurate art from 5th-6th-7th century Britons and I adapted them into shield designs. Other elements were taken from the illuminated manuscripts. Here's a small sample of the results:

Cornubian noblemen tiers

high tier cernou

Dumnonian mid-tier shields

mid tier dumnent

Ebraucian Low tier shields

low tier ebrauc

Powysian lowest tier

lowest tier poguis

On to the units!

Yup, from the Anno Domini mod, set in barious stages of the Early and High medieval eras. There’s more of our shield designs that made it!

Annoyingly I am having the busiest couple of months of my irl career so I can't do any dedicated modding, but I do keep at it. If you wanna stay updated on my smaller edits, join the discord server where there are almost daily previews!
