Israeli Defense Force: Fight for Independence is a Total Conversion modification for the PC game Battlefield 2 (A.K.A. BF2). What we aim to achieve with this mod is to immerse the player into the historic wars involving Israel, Syria, Egypt, and Jordan, which are the 6-Day War, the War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War. The player will be able to play as a common soldier, crewmember, or pilot in these wars. The mod will feature historically accurate equipment such as the famous Russian AK-47, the fearsome SO-4050 bomber, the menacing IS3 and M48 tanks, and much, much more. Also, the maps will recreate actual battles that happened in these wars, to complete a historically-accurate and immersive modification. IDF:FFI is also a member of the acclaimed cooperative gaming studio Black Sand Studios.

Description

The BTR-40 (Bronetransporter, literally "armoured transporter") is a Soviet non-amphibious, wheeled armoured personnel carrier and reconnaissance vehicle. It is also the first mass-produced Soviet APC. It was eventually replaced in the APC role by the BTR-152 and in the scout car role by the BRDM-1.

The APC variant has no permanent armament but it has pintle mounts for three light or heavy machine guns, one at the front of the troop compartment and the other two at the sides. There was also an AA version with dual 14.5mm heavy machine guns in a specail turret. The BTR-40's armour is thick enough to give it protection from small arms fire but not much else. The tires are particularly vulnerable to puncture from fire of all kinds.

It was widely used by the Arab armies from the 1950's up until recently. Illness88 did a great job with creating the texture and doing the research to find historical photos. Illness88's brother Gizoo made the excellent model. The texture we show here is an Egyptian BTR-40 of the Six Day War. The Syrians used the BTR-40 as did the Israel's after they captured many during the Six Day War.
