Its pointless to complain about a model. The original author made the mod with that model and everybody should respect his decision. This reminds me of the stupid scandal they made over the corpse model of Half-Life 2 ffs

it's literally a nude uncensored female model

Same, some people here are fine with blowing people to gibs or torturing them using crazy killing machines but they look for rocks to hide under whenever a low-poly woman's body pops up on the screen. It's baffling.

ok
let's put that inappropriate topic away
I wonder why it's in the game files in the first place
and for some reason, the model is a replacement for small fungus model that you see in Xen
It seems Toxagen is a bit h*rny

That model was taken from another mod, it's clearly not the model which has been made especially for Residual Life by its' author. I've checked mod maps and found 20 occurences of that model at 5 maps. The model is used there not as a special easter egg, but really as replacement of normal fungus model on Xen maps, so it looks more like sort of "joke" with no other particular reasons. Thus it should be not a problem to make such back replacement (old versions of the mod always used normal fungus model, by the way)... Especially because this replacement can be easily deleted (if you really want "joke" model instead of proper fungus).

Let me understand this: The mod originally had a nude female model replacing Xen fungi for some reason but you've replaced it with the regular HL model in the name of "preserving the mod and the author's original vision" ?

If the original dev put it there how does removing it is preserving his vision? Or is it an alteration made by someone else?

I haven't removed the nude model - it's still here, inside the pak0 file.

What I've done is taken the original fungus(small) model from the base game and added it into a models sub-folder. That way I don't alter the pak file - preserving the original author's work - but also making it so that the nude model doesn't actually show up in the game by essentially telling the mod to use a different one instead.

Personally, I wouldn't really care about the nude model provided that it fit, but it really doesn't - it replaces an alien plant, so when you get to Xen, you'll see it in random places, and it sticks out like a sore thumb. That's MY objection to it.

This Reddit post has a screenshot of what the naked woman (which is NOT the old nympho.mdl file) looks like in-game: Reddit.com

But hey, as Qwertyus said, you can easily delete the models folder if you REALLY want to see a naked woman in random locations on Xen.

It doesn't matter if it's still in the files, the average mod player won't even know the tools to open those files that hold the model, let alone actually viewing it, in the end it won't be displayed in-game and that doesn't preserve the authors original intent.

Look, random nude women on Xen is stupid but still, that's what the author intended, taking it out isn't "preserving the original vision". If the reasoning behind the change is simply because it's not fitting then I agree with you, but you should scrub that comment about original vision off the description since, as stupid as it is, the original vision of the dev really was nude women in Xen.

The idea was that, because I didn't alter the pak file, THAT was "preserving the original vision", since I wasn't removing the nude model. But I guess it was a bit misleading, so I've reworded the description.
