The mod will - re-create the original levels in the game, making them larger, more intersting, and more difficult, and may add one or two new ones.

Alt Death Gibs - Most if not all monsters will have alternate death's, mainly for their "explosion" deaths, they will not occur each time, and they will ONLY occur with the use of your ultimate weapon, or other explosives, and there will be about a 15 - 25% chance of the alt death(s) to happen, the ratio isnt set in stone at this time, though. (HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HAPPEN)

Bosses - There will be around 10 bosses, not including Korax and the Masters.

Brightmaps -This project is complete! Find it in the download section if you're interested.

Monsters - The mod will have 26 new enemies, that fit into the look and feel of hexen, there will also be returning enemies from heretic. Most monsters will be biome based, Lava monsters in fire areas, ice monsters in ice, etc.


Monster variation - I will be creating variations for the monsters in hexen, so that you do not see the same looking Ettin every level, ideas for ettins would be - new armor, weapons, and attack damage. Chaos serpents may having varying heights, more spines/horns, different attacks and skin tones. You get the idea. The deathkings will also get a revamp. (HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HAPPEN)

Other info - You will NEED GZDoom to run this, unfortunately no other sourceport can properly support the mod. (as far as i know)

Weapons - There will be 2 new weapons for each hero. I have not decided which weapons to add at this time. The original weapons may also be edited.

Optional files - Once the mod is done, I am hoping for it to be compatible with most mods, Wrath of Cronos, Simplified Gore, Hexercise, Hexercise + WoC, Brutal Hexen. I will provide links to the threads of each mod eventually.

I have also decided that the base version of redux will not contain new enemies or weapons, i may make a second version of the mod once everything is complete containing new monsters and weapons. But with mods like Wrath of Cronos around, this most likely wont happen.

Great choice excluding "new" enemies and weapons, there are so many gameplay mods for Hexen that it's best to leave people choose which one to use.

This is sexy. I've been a Hexen fan since my brother played it like ages ago, and I tried it out last year but instantly got addicted. I think the only things that felt like a let down was the weapon limitation, and the levels, although beautiful, where a tad confusing (maybe its because people are used to getting hints and everything these days so you know it might just be a perspective thing) the whole "hub level" thing never really caught on so its that awkward phase between the old and the semi-old games.

But now that I've had time to think about it does make sense that a place could be laid out like that in real life, the central area connecting the other places, and that it does give you sense of freedom which we also don't see much in games these days.
Games are stuck between 2 extremes, sandbox and linear, and rarely go into semi-open world, multiple paths. So in another way its kind of refreshing to have that in this day and age.

I'm not sure how to go about redesigning Hexen but I can say that I like what I'm seeing so far and would like to see this kind of layout it in more games.

Thanks, i completely agree with most of us being used to waypoints and mini maps that reveal everything...and as for the semi open world design im going for, every hub in the game will be like this, other than the seven portals because well....theyre portals to other areas on the planet, and i plan on making the level switch only be a 'walk over this line to trigger an autosave and music change'

Perhaps there are some avoid zones but nothing important.
I tested it with (and without) WoC and heXercise mod and work correctly.

thanks, i still have to space out the fog a bit better and fix a few textures but its really close to being done, once its released in the final mod you really wont see a huge difference. And WoC sorta works...it should work perfectly fine on THAT map, but later on with the new enemies, itll break.

This is exactly what Hexen has need for a longgg time. I never really got why there was never a big revamp project for this game, like how the other build & doom games did. I get why strife was forgotten about, as it lacked the uniqueness of the other games. I get why Blood never took off because it never got a source code release.. but Hexen? I've had my theories, maybe the whole confusing aspect of it's puzzles.. which are not so much puzzles as they are exploring pressing a switch and going into a completely different area, either backtracking or even going across maps. It's a journey rather than a puzzle.

I suppose it's campaign may have turned off some people. But that shouldn't stop modders. Most of the mods I've seen take a more linear route, so that there is a fast paced flow. The game did lack assets but there's a couple of modder created assets for the game last time I checked. The lack of weapons for the 3 classes should have only encouraged modders to take a shot at revamping it...

ah this game holds a special place for me, Blood is my true favorite though with duke3d taking 2nd place. Hexen to me has has alot of potential to being truly ground breaking.

I agree, to be honest though i never found the puzzles as challenging as most people thought or find them to be, theyre fairly simple..its just tedious for someone if theyre expecting a extremely linear game.
