You are Kovac, a senior agent in the covert Special Black Operations unit. You're deployed to Black Mesa to halt the next phase of the science team's plan after HECU forces are unsuccessful in stopping Freeman from launching the Omega Satellite delivery rocket... ...but you fail, the procedure ends up creating massive portal storms in the sky sending you and your team through a void to oblivion and back. You wake up almost twenty four hours later; the military has withdrawn, and everyone and everything besides your fellow Black Operators are now a target. To make matters worse, another hostile and more powerful alien faction has appeared in the chaos, further complicating the situation. The incident can no longer be contained, you must link up with other Black Ops units and prepare to wipe the facility from the map once and for all...
Custom Opposing Force code by Solokiller, modifications and new programming by James.
This is a basic demonstration of some of the new features in Dark Matter, you've already seen (heard) the real time radio communications system, here are some more in-game mechanics:
- Keycard system featuring HUD icon and security clearance information.
- Basic test of Race X teleport sequence.
- New Human Grunts armed with the M249 SAW, unlike the ones from Opposing Force, these guys are not your friends (!)
- Kovac's armour pickups, comprised of a ballistic vest (75%), and kneepads (25%).
There'll be more to see in the future sometime, you aint seen nothing yet!
Note: Everything shown here is work in progress and subject to change.
I think there should be a custom pickup sound effect for the armor vests and kneepads and maybe even for the keycards.
I'm trying to keep it as familiar as I can, like how you hear the same weapon pickup sound when you grab Barney's armour in Blue Shift. We can certainly work on this as time goes on anyway!
HECU Marine: Squad, we got Black Ops!
They would still say "We got hostiles!"
Hmm yes, this keycard system looks definitely more thought out and clear than the usual afterthought one-time trick done is some other mods out of... idk what, this here seems like it will belong rather than feel out of place.
We have new code for it, which helps :) I always thought it was logical for the ID badges to be used as keycards, surprised no one else did it before now!
Larger crosshair option or..?
Um, it's just default..?
Anyway, it could be really cool to make optional crosshairs for the large monitors, like this: Moddb.com
Aha! Sure, we can certainly do that as well!
I really like the change of the color for the teleporting sprite for Race X. Do you plan on releasing the sprite as a mod for OpFor?
It's a colour change done in the map editor, it can't be used in regular OP4...
that's just s a d
Why i cant watch the video? Screen remains black :/
It's to put the black in Black Ops
