Sins of a Solar Empire is often described as a 4XRTS game, or a game that tried to merge the action and tactics packed gameplay of a Real time strategy game with the deep, complex, empire wide strategy of a 4X turn based game. It's up to debate whether Sins succeeded in this goal, but I think all can agree that of the 4Xs of "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate", Sins is much more focused on the exterminate than on the others. This mod seeks to give more depth to the other 3Xs of the game by adding additional game elements or refining the existing ones to reward players who give more strategic thought to the non-combat side of the game. Combat will still be the center point of the game, but players will find that the non-combat options available will be much more rewarding. Spying, exploring, sabotage, diplomacy, culture, and economic development have all been added or changed in innovative new ways. Regardless of what you think Sins is, this is the 4XRTS it should have been.

Hi! It's been a long time since I played Sins and the latest DLC piqued my interest so I decided to fire it up - but before I even played my first game I sought out this mod, without which I long ago decided the game just didn't feel right (for which, kudos, by the way!).

I noticed a few areas of the mod text - race selection, abilities, research, etc. - which could use a little improvement; and I wondered if you'd welcome that feedback? Let me know and I'll report anything of this nature as and when I come across it.

For example:
On the Vasari faction selection screen, on the tooltip for the VIR's "Vasari Ind. Republic" skill, it says, "...the Vasari have decided that its best to put aside..." - this should read, "...that it's best...".
Also, the final sentence ends, "Their phase missiles also have longer rang" - perhaps due to a character limit?

I'm happy to clean up any text - but again, only if you'd welcome that! I realise not everyone is as anal as I am about this stuff and, frankly, your effort is best spent on making the actual mod more awesome. (If I can wrap my head around the editor again, I could even update the relevant files and submit them to you, if that was easy for you to incorporate.)

Anyway, let me know either way. I love the mod so I couldn't help but ask!

By all means, I don't always do my best writing while doing my best modding. ;) Sometimes I even forget to put the descriptions through a spell checker (mostly because none of my programs with spell check elegantly handle a file that long). Feel free to rephrase things to make it clearer as well as purely technical mistakes, if I agree that it is an improvement I will certainly include it.

Hmm, I swore I fixed that VIR thing. Yes, there is a strict 255 character limit per description (string). So keep that in mind if you end up lengthening anything.

If you want to see all the strings in one place, go to the String folder in the mod. You can open the English.str file in notepad, all the mod related stuff is at the top (either new strings or old ones that I've changed). I think the standard Rebellion stuff starts with the names of the AI players.
