Dragon Age: Total War is a currently unreleased Dragon Age-themed total conversion mod for Medieval 2 Total War: Kingdoms. The mod features 23 unique factions throughout various locations across the continent of Thedas each featuring unique unit rosters, faction mechanics, scripts, campaign conditions, gameplay styles, characters, and much more. Dragon Age: Total war aims to provide a distinct and meticulously lore-friendly yet highly familiar insight into BioWare's world of Thedas, all the while expanding further on the lore of Thedas and exploring areas previously unseen in any form of Dragon Age media. All rights to Dragon Age belong to EA and it's subsidiary studio, BioWare.
Deep in the dark caverns and lost places of the Deep Roads, mysterious companies of dwarven soldiers from Kal-Sharok known only as the "Aegis" punches through hordes of teeming and monsterous Darkspawn brutes, intent only on tearing dwarven bodies to shreds, often acting as the only line of defense between the beasts and dwarven workers and travellers attempting to rebuild newly reclaimed thaigs, mines, or shrines. Little is known even to Kal-Sharok's own shaperate about the origins of the Aegis, it's anonymous members shrouded in mystery behind closed helmets, tight formations, and tall silverite shields, only that they recruit secretly in the city from among criminals, outcasts, renegades, and Dwarves almost driven mad by the taint, who are all then somehow shaped into elite and exceptionally disciplined warriors loyal solely to the Paragon-Elect upon pain of death, and capable of serving as hammer, scalpel, and shield all at once.
These bois look pretty cool. Is their armour based off a design in the games? Because I don't recall seeing it.
Helmets are based off of Sha-Brytol designs, while their armor is based on a variant of Dwarven armor from DA:I. Though it is important to keep in mind that as with plenty of other factions in Thedas, there is absolutely no concept art or references for Kal-Sharok's armor/aesthetics, leaving us to come up with new things.
Heavy metal Dwarven Terminators
These look phenomenal!
Oh man I have been waiting to see some Dwarf units, they are for sure my favorite faction in Thedas and these look absolutely incredible! Are you planning on differentiating the appearance of Kal-Sharok Dwarves from Orzammar Dwarves on units without full helmets? Kal-Sharok dwarves evidently look pretty different from those in Orzammar; supposedly being changed by the taint to be paler and "different". Maybe they could have paler skin with pale irises as well, sort of like a much less severe version of how blight ghouls look in DA:O but without the dark splotches and veins on their face?
Also I really can't emphasize enough how excited I am for this mod to come out. Ever since I discovered it around two years ago, I can honestly say I am more excited about this than any "AAA" title that has come out or will be coming out. You guys are doing absolutely incredible work. Do you guys have a paypal or anything? I would love to give you guys something for making a mod that looks so well made.
Yes, the Dwarven heads used by Kal-Sharok differ in the ways the lore gives us. In the Discord server, some of the helmet-less Kal-Sharok units have been previewed.
Glad to hear you're still watching the mod! Eventually, the wait will pay off. As the FAQ mentions, we do not accept donations nor do we have a Paypal to avoid a legally grey area.
Certainly no rush! I have been wanting a DATW since i first played DA:O like 11 years ago and it became my favorite game of all time, so I can wait as long as it takes.
One more question I have is what is going to be done about faction voices. Are you going to use the faction voices of vanilla M2TW, or are you planning to use sound bytes from the games in a similar fashion as Elder Scrolls Total War? Apologies if this has been answered before or elsewhere.
In regards to voiceovers, vanilla lines work well in a lot of places, but a lot of sounds will also come from the games or other sources wherever needed/appropriate.
