Doomnation is a project of mine that I've spent roughly around 3 years on and covers a huge variety of content (essentially a gameplay rebalancing / enhancement mod) for Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom.

I've kept the mod personal for several years as I've never had the confidence to release it, and some may consider it "similar" to Brutal Doom. However the mod consists of many changes, including well optimized gore, Quake-Styled weapon balancing, Rocket-Jumping, Class Mechanics, improvised enemy AI, "Formulaic" bosses (with more than 1 attack pattern) and a removal of the random damage system and much, much more.

Using a highly optimized version of "Hunter's Moon's" 3D gore the mod is able to run on some Slaughter-map Wads like Newgothic and such; though I do feel that I could do more to further optimize the system in the future. Currently the gore disappears from view dependent on if the player is nearby or not looking at said gore, so it runs smoothly overall.

Features:

  • Class based system (9 Quake Fortress classes, needs more work)
  • Fully implemented Gore system with 3 colors of blood, optimization for heavy maps.
  • Weapon re-balancing to a similar style to Quake 1.
  • Work replacing the weapon special effects (gun animations are vanilla)
  • AI improvements, including adding new attacks, behaviors and more.
  • Implementations of Sentry-Gun / Helper AI (Partly unfinished, though the sentries are done almost)
  • Vastly improved the competancy of certain enemies / weakened others, for example; the Barons of Hell are truly superior to their peers (Hell Knight, Archvile etc); but the Hell Knight and Archvile have their own Trump cards.
  • Added new guns, Revolver, Knife, Railgun, Sticky Launcher, Demo Launcher, Crossbow, Sniper Rifle, Flare Gun, Flamethrower (Both need work), Quad Shotgun etc.
  • Implemented a system where each class has different performing guns (Unfinished), Sniper's More Accurate, Soldier has more effective splash radius, etc.
  • Implemented a "Monster Spawning" system, which randomizes and spawns monsters in as you play; creating surprise encounters and ambushes when you least expect it. (Optional)
  • HUD based target health system, shows you how much HP the enemy has.
  • Also included is the 3D0 soundtrack for those that play Ultimate Doom.
