JC Denton has merged with Helios, the international communications protocol and all-knowing AI, extending its reach to the physical realm. The creepy duo intends to use an army of augmented agents to implement and enforce their scheme of nanite powered mental synchronicity and surveillance of the entire human race. Players will assume the role of recently nano-augmemted Tiffany Savage and go on a mind bending adventure to sabotage their authoritarian design. How (and if) she chooses to do so, is entirely up to her.

This is a testing release, so expect bugs. Also, this mod is in its infancy, anything could change at this point, especially the story.

To reduce speech “compression artifacts” you can use a tool like Lame Front-End 1.8 to compress/convert your mp3 files. It allows setting the quality of resulting files.

Do you have any particular lines that you discovered these artifacts with? We're using sox to convert from .wav to 48kbps 44kHz mono .mp3, and they mostly seem fine to me.

The voices are cloned from the originals and then reproduced as TTS, so there might be some artifacts coming from that process.

In the latest version the most noticeable one is when van driver says "Let's hit the road". Also some lines in conversation between scientists at the beginning.

BTW, how did you made that cut-scene in Tijuana? Camerapoints or some custom scripts? It looks very nice and in-place.

Thanks! It's a custom script. It's right here: Dxgalaxy.gitlab.io

Hello, I played an early version and have something to say. I think this mod has potential and I like the premise of merging JC and Helios. The level design is a bit sloppy and lacks the variety and depth of the original, but it's an early version and I'm sure that can be fixed. Honestly, this reminds me of early Deus Ex mods from the early 2000s like Zodiac or Redsun 2020.
However, I have some complaints about the plot and dialogue. The fact that Tiffany and Miguel call Denton a "clown" and a "jerk" seems very inappropriate, especially since both characters were saved by him at some point. I think the storytelling lacks nuance. It's as if the script wants us to perceive Denton as a one-dimensional villain from the start. Plus, the whole thing about JC "wanting to turn all people into zombies" seems like a misinterpretation of what Helios' ending was like in the original game. Even if it was just Gary Savage's point of view.
In any case, I'm always happy to see any new mods for the first Deus Ex.

I just wanted to say that your comment about how the dialogue was "inappropriate" did stir up some much needed debate among us about how to approach the characters and their motivations. I guess I didn't much care for your wording, so I took a defensive stance, but your feedback was actually quite helpful. So thanks for that :)

You're right, it's still early days. The work started less than 2 months ago.

About your discomfort with antagonising JC, it's understandable, since we all have great memories embodying his character. But this is what happens when you crown yourself the all-knowing god of humanity, which is the canon ending of DX1, if you extrapolate from events in DX:IW. JC/Helios may feel "misunderstood", but they're still trying to take away free will, and that's bound to ruffle some feathers, ya know?

Our story aims to explain what happened between DX and DX:IW, and JC being a total angel and loved by everyone just doesn't make for a good story. We need some friction to make interesting things happen. Also, JC is too much of a one-dimensional character. We are actually trying to do him a favour by taking him down a few pegs, so he can develop into something more.

We're pouring our hearts and souls into this story, and we love DX to death, so don't worry. We'll do well by him, one way or another :)

Ummm, I still don't think Helios' ending was interpreted correctly. The point in that ending was that Helios, with the help of AI's technologies and Denton’s humanity, would become for mankind an ideal guide to the future, which would meet the needs of each individual person. In the game itself, Helios turned off the lights in government buildings and opened roads for trade. And people obeyed him not out of fear, but simply because he did what they wanted. It's not like Helois wanted to bend humanity to his will, destroy freedom, or unite all people into a hivemind. I think it all came from IW. By the way, the merger of Denton and Helios is not a canon ending. The merger was interrupted due to the destruction of Area 51 and the Collapse, so Denton/Helios went into hiding and began preparing the way for their return. In any case, IW retconned a lot of things from the original and changed the characters' personalities dramatically like with Tracer Tong, for example, so I wouldn't refer to that game anyway.

Of course, I understand that this ending is not an unambiguous positive, like the other two, but I have a more well-intentioned attitude towards AI than many people. At one time, I liked that the first Deus Ex destroyed the cliche about evil AI that wants to destroy/enslave humanity. All AI in the game simply follow their programs and even the most sinister of them (Icarus) simply carries out the will of his creator. If Helios was evil, he wouldn't have to choose Denton over Page.

Regarding JC Denton, I have no problem opposing him. I had no problem with him as an antagonist in IW, although in my opinion the game handled his character, faction, and ending quite poorly. The problem is that the other characters who owe their lives to him (Tiffany and Miguel) act like he means nothing to them. I would hardly call the person who saved my life a "clown" or a "jerk", even if I disagree with the rest of his actions. I wouldn't have a problem if the main characters acted a little more mature. And Denton at least has his own opinion on many issues, is able to change his mind and make choices, so he is clearly was not one-dimensional.

In any case, this is your mod and your interpretation of those characters and events. I just think this vision is too simplistic compared to the philosophy of the original game.
