Daedalus is a science fiction mod set in 2135. In the single-player game, one assumes the role of Alex Calveres, the captain of a deep-space exploration vessel with a motley crew of characters that are different in every sense but work together well. An employee for the Orion Federal Conglomorate, Alex was told to break his usual schedule of exploration and patrol to deliver a government package to a research facility in a distant star system. The single-player story begins on Earth where you are told of your unusual mission, when you arrive at the station you discover that a horrible and sinister catastrophy has occured, and the station is adrift in a now devastated star system, you travel over to the stricken station to investigate and what you find out ends up throwing one's character into a search for answers and truth.
The single player story will be built around a heavily modified Half-Life 1 game engine utilizing spirit of half-life code and counterstrike condition zero code to implement neccesary in game effects such as volumetric fogging, particle effects real-time lighting and high reolution textures. Heavily stroyline driven and utilizing custom music, models, and sounds to create an eerily realistic depiction of life on the frontier for our crew and the main character. For different missions the player can select different members of daedulus crew each with their own special abilites. Why use Half-Life 1 technology i hear you ask? well at 10 years old it has essentially an incredibly well patched base code with a wealth of features developed by third parties at our disposal. its easy to construct content for and user friendly for developers as well as end users. The wealth of modified code allows for higher polygon counts, particle effects and lighting effects in engine that will allow the game to look and feel good enough to please those eye candy fanatics while providing depth and stroy driven gaming that the more cereberal of players will enjoy. So stay tuned because although inactive for a long time daedulus is back, and with more features at our disposal for development the game will be more than a MOD, it will be a seperate entity with its own soul!
Daedalus will also feature a multiplayer component, in which the only finalized game mode is a deathmatch style thing. (unless anyone wants to develop a better multiplayer component for us!)
Hi Everyone. Just a general update to let you all know that Daedulus is still alive and well. The MOD is coming together nicely albeit slowly due to the small team (of around 4 people). Production is looking good and music is also sounding good courtesy of Anthony Hallsworth. I have a few new screenshots of the latest progress of the game, why not visit our profile and view our extensive gallery there's nearly 70 pics in their for you to browse through including concept art. Im hoping to have a public demo by the end of April with an internal team release before then so if your interested in testing the game for us then let us know, your help would be appreciated. The only thing niggling at me is the lack of custom hud textures but that will be sorted soon.
Just a quick post to let you all know were still alive. I have put 99% or my spare time into development and production of Daedulus and have literally...
