it doesn't have the same sort of lasting impact that the more traditional flamethrower bunker had.... but it's more fun to see this weapon in action!

I have to admit that watching those Panzers burn was pretty gratifying!

I've heard of bunkers using flamethrowers before, however searching for info just leads to sources about flamethowers AGAINST bunkers.

Flame fougasse weren't a british only thing, even the germans developed their own in the Abwehrflammenwerfer 42.

the only nation I've found that made lots of flamethrower bunkers were the Germans. they had hundreds of them scattered across southern Europe. the reason you don't find as much when researching bunkers is that the most common form of flamethrower 'bunker' was usually a converted Panzer II turret. the Panzer II flamethrower tank was considered too vulnerable in mobile combat... so rather than throw them away they used the chassis to create self-propelled guns and used the turrets to make 'pantherturm' bunkers.

"Tank Turret Fortifications" by Neal Short and "Fortress Europe" by Kaufmann and Jurga are good sources that I've used while working on the mod.

Description

a long time ago we added a British flamethower bunker into the game. over the years there was something about it that sort of bothered me. a month or so ago I realized that this was something that would be better simulated by creating a new type of minefield. so I tinkered around with the minefield to make it look like a partially buried 40 gallon drum. my historical readings indicated that the British used it for testing purposes... whereas the Greeks may have actually used it during the war. so, here's a time elapsed shot of the Flame Fougasse Mine in action. right now the Brit and Greek engineers can build this weapon... but I'm thinking I'd like to give the partisans something fun to do as well. so I'll probably add this to the Yugoslav and Polish partisan engineers... oh, right, Partisan engineers is a new unit. they'll only be able to create minefields and booby traps... obviously they shouldn't be making concrete reinforced bunkers or huge artillery dug outs!
