It is the year 1973. The world repels the deployment of Yuri's Psychic Dominator network. To counter their efforts, Yuri's secret moon base decided to turn the most fearful force into a weapon: gravity. However, they did not expect the gravity distortions their experiments caused to be picked up by an outside force...
Sorry for silence, but unfortunately I ran into a severe hardware issue which prevents me to actually mod AS. Long story short: I hate my GPU.
Whatever, here is something I always wanted to do in Ares but never got there - warheads spawning units directly. Sorry for the result being in the RA mod, but due to the above, this is the best I can do atm.
Apparently OpenRA was uninterested, so the code is only available in Github.com - however, since I already wrote a "GenericWarhead SW" months ago, this means I can probably start restoring/remaking a good bunch of my support powers even.
How exactly does this work
The weapon warhead has a list of units to spawn and when the explosion is triggered, it looks around in arange of cells to see if it can place these units down. If it could, it spawns them. Literally the same way a lot of YR-Ares support SWs worked (Zephyr Beacon, Molebomb, Motor Ambush, Risen Railgun to list a few Mental Omega examples) except that they can be triggered in other ways besides support powers.
Ofcourse, this won't be so common ingame but the idea is something I really want to play further on.
Apparently this was never submitted to OpenRA upstream.
I asked it on the IRC if anyone was interested but noone replied - Logs.openra.net - so I took that as no interest.
No one replying in IRC meant no one read what you wrote. Send a pull request to get feedback. The example shown is a bit ridiculous, but I guess there are valid use cases for this such as mine drops.
See, I was more thinking "load up a vehicle with troops and fire them as a projectile in a drop-pod".
Angry Marine Launchers will become a thing.
