Now you know what it feels like :P
Damn, I meant to vote you up and hit down instead, and when I tried to undo it it said I'd "already issued this item karma".
Sorry!
Nice, any chance of making available on Desura some of your other work like Digital: A Love Story and don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story?
I've had a long time love of Digital: A Love Story, and I think having them easily available on Desura would get others interested in your work.
If anyone is having trouble playing this game due to Adobe Air, I was able to play the game after installing Air on Ubuntu 12.04 by following these instructions - Askubuntu.com
Awesome, great to hear about the Linux version, I love games like this.
Hey soul 667,
I've never been a huge fan of the general category of narrated gameplay videos, but here's my feedback.
I like that you've got a voice that's decent to listen to, that you clearly know your stuff, and that the reviews are fairly thorough catching on a lot of neat little details and explaining things.
At the same time, it can seem a little slow at times, such as taking 4mins to get to the actual game, you should really get into the action quicker (not that showing the interactive title screen wasn't worth it or anything). 20mins is also a little long for a YouTube video, but I'm kinda liking the relaxed pace so just make sure you don't make the video longer than it needs to be.
Your style works well with a game like this as there's a lot of little neat stuff to show off and you seem good at showing them.
I think it could do with a bit more polishing but good video and wish you the best with more.
I would so really love a Linux port, I'd buy it instantly.
ScummVM demonstrates that there's a healthy amount of Linux gamers who love Point and Click Adventure games, but we're crying out for something new. This looks awesome.
Been playing it on Ubuntu 10.10. It's a fun game with simple mechanics and a variety of ever more challenging situations to use it in.
And I have to say, I'm damn glad to play a Linux game where there's a strong and polished art design. You guys spent so much time working out the style, and the aesthetics, and adding in all those countless little touches that added to the atmosphere and keeping the theme consistent. You really hit the playful cartoony atmosphere you were going for. Great job.
I can't read that, but apparently one of the Cons of the game has something to do with Tom Clancy.
As someone coming to this page for the first time. Why is the preview video just some guy showing install instructions?
For one thing, this is Desura which takes care of all the installing making the video redundant.
Secondly, if you come to the page of a Western themed multiplayer FPS, when you hit "Play" on the video you want to see a whole load of gameplay footage of people shooting eachother and cool tense actions scenes that make us anticipate playing these same scenes when we download and play the game for ourselves.
I am so buying this when it comes out for Linux. I certainly think there's a need for more tranquil and relaxing games out there that are a bit different from the norm. I've still got good memories from the Dreamcast release of Ecco the Dolphin (even thought some found the puzzles frustrating, the underwater scenery was gorgeous).
To answer your question, "abandonware" is not a legal term. It's just a colloquial term for something that no longer seems to be cared for or maintained by any company. Generally the term is used as a justification for piracy (whether it is okay to pirate a game by a company that no longer exists is a big debate in and of itself).
The publishing rights for this game are currently owned by Interplay Entertainment, it would be illegal for anyone to sell Fallout without first forming an agreement with Interplay. Both GOG and Desura have assumedly made such an agreement.
There is actually a port of the 2.7x Adventure Game Studio game engine: T-vandepoele.be
Whether the developers will use it to release this game for Linux is their own decision.
Your comment is now obsolete.
Trust me, I know how it feels.
Ugh, I want this game for Linux so bad, but I can't expect Bohemia Interactive to port the Real Virtuality 3 over to it. Still, the game's worth supporting, looks awesome (and special love for Seattle).
I'm so nervous about that game, it seems so epic in scope I worry over whether the team will be able to complete it. Best of luck to them in any event.
I see it now.
Awesome, thank you for supporting Linux. Buying it right now.
That's awesome but... why's the Deluxe version Windows only?
For those that are interested, I got into contact with these guys and they helped me out. Thanks!
The developer was awesome enough to reply to an email I sent about a Linux version, here's what he sent back (which I assume he's okay with me posting):
"Hi Sofox! You are right. There is a Linux port of AGS but it's not entirely 100% stable, and I don't have a Linux machine myself and wouldn't feel right selling something I would be unable to support. Not only that, but the port does not support plugins. Gemini Rue uses quite a few plugins, mostly to create those lovely rain effects. And Gemini Rue without the rain is simply not Gemini Rue. :) "
Fair enough, I guess now that the AGS Runtime is open source, it's up to Linux developers to make a stable Linux port that can support plugins if we want to see Genimi Rue on Linux.
Normally, I wouldn't hassle the developer asking for a Linux port (even though I'd buy it instantly and other Linux gamers are anxious to buy more video games), but I believe that this game is based on the AGS Engine, which actually already has a Linux port.
The developer's previous Point and Click adventure games, the Blackwell Series, can be run on Linux natively by following the simple instructions on this page: Lgdb.org
I think it would be great if the developer used this to create an official Linux port, I'd definitely buy it.
Hey guys,
I bought the "Extra Cheese" edition off you guys some time ago. When I got into the Desura Linux Beta, I redeemed the code, but found I couldn't play either the regular version, or the extra cheese version. (I was "Cheesed off" you could say, ha ha... I'm sorry...)
Wrote a whole techy, bug report sort of thing you can read here: Indiedb.com
Hope I can play it soon!
I agree with tmccullough, I just started up Desura and got an ad for Bloody Trapland. This seems to be Windows only.
I've a problem with A.Typical RPG.
Firstly, while the regular version is Windows and Linux, the "A.Typical RPG Extra Cheese With Lightning Bolts Edition" is Windows only.
The second problem is more serious; I bought the "Extra Cheese" edition a few months ago and just now I redeemed the Desura code for it.
A. Typical RPG now appears in the Play Menu of the Desura client, but when I double click on it I get a dialog box that says "A. Typical RPG is not installed. Please select the release you would like to play" and I get a dropdown with the options of "Full 1,99€ EUR" and "Find Install on this computer" neither of which will let me play the game.
When I click on the button "More Information", I get a list showing the regular version of A. Typical RPG, the demo version and the Extra Cheese version. The only one with a "Play Now" option is the Extra Cheese version, and clicking on that I get a dialogue with:
"There was an error during the gathering information process and it has been stopped.
Branch is invalid or user doesnt[sic] have permissions to install branch. [42.0]"
Thank you so much for this, it's really needed and greatly appreciated.
1) Furries like to game! Where there are gamers... there are FURRIES!
2) Because...
c) Why not?
Heh, seriously though, furries just tend to be social and like chatting with other furs. Pretty much any big gaming community has a fair few furs (mascot platformers like Sonic are often seen as a "gateway" to the furry community) so forming a group for the furs in it to chat to eachother seems natural. There are quite a few furry groups on Steam.
