Developer and Lead coder of evolution of Combat mod. Latest version available now.First off , let me clear some things up. You all probably know a lot about saber combat , right ? Well , I hate to burst your little bubble of hope but ... with all due respect , you have seen nothing yet. "Evolution of Combat" is just that what it means. Evolution. It changes A LOT , and I really do mean it , about Saber fighting system.Here is the thing , the new blocking system is converted from automatic , to manual. Yes , you figured correctly ! Using a set of movements and a few mouse clicks you can manage to avoid/block most of the strikes given from your adversary with some practice ( and a lot of it ).The offensive system has also gained some new bulk. We all got tired of having only 3 stances in the game at some point too. But do not fret , with this modification , you get not 5 , not 6 , but 7 amazing new stances , moves , katas and positioning.

I looked at your video.The animations error is a result of YOU installing the mod incorrectly or YOU adding extra -humanoid folder mods in your base folder.Your error of incorrect animations shows me you are using a different animations folder.Maybe you have the Moviebattles 2 animations folder in your base,this goes in the base folder automatically when you install MB2.But it conflicts with EoC animations.
Many people who complain the mod has errors can actually solve the errors by installing the mod correctly and without "ANY OTHER PK3 FILES" in the base folder.90% of the time this is the problem.The mod does have bugs and errors,but the ones you have shown come as a result of incorrect animations folder interfering with the EoCIV animations folder.Many people have a favourite animations folder or effects folder that they like to use in conjunction with other mods.EoCIV is a total conversion and adding or removing or changing anything can cause errors.

Model that are not Base JKA or not already available in the mod ,must be "Coded" in by me,for the class system to "Accept" them.

A small update to fix the Single player force power error in registered classes when using the galaxy map or changing to different levels.

Sorry i missed this one.

It is caused by the new class system clashing with JKA standard NPC system.As a result of the clash,the game defaults to 0 FP.

Im working on a fix in my spare time, and as soon as it is ready i will get it to Matt ,so that he can update you guys immediately.

I will try my best to have it available for you guys by the weekend.

Sorry again that i missed this one,However i am aware of the problem and the fix will be sent out without delay,as soon as possible.

Just give me a few days to sort it out guys and please forgive the mistake,"Im only human".

Notice to all EoCIV Players.

The patch is finished (On my end at least).Matt hopes to release the Patch As soon as possible.

To that end i will be opening/hosting a server (UK Only).From this evening. Between 8 or 9 pm until about midnight (Weather permitting).

All players should be able to join ,even without the patch.Your engine should then be automatically updated and you should be able to play.You wont be able to see the new effects and stuff because you dont have the patch installed but you should notice an instant improvement in game play.

If the server is a success (somebody joins.).I will do the same on Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks to all the people who turned up last night and gave me a good *** kicking with my own sabersystem.
I am very proud to see people have understood the Aim of the saber system and developed there own styles.

It was also good to see some people have figured out some of the secrets in the mod,extra moves and abilities etc.

This is why i never released a tutorial on the system and some of you have agreed, self development is the best idea.

Hope the new patch is to everybody's liking and solves most of the issues noted.

Another patch will be due in about 6 months.

Quick update for you guys.I Finished the last of my updates with the code 10 Min ago.Just tested it and it seems good to go to Matt.I'm going to hold it and test it for 2 days before I send to matt.And add the last few widescreen resolutions tomorrow evening.
I have tried to fix all the reported bugs or as many as i could in mp +sp and added the files required for change.As well as adding some new stuff (not saying what).But my time is up in 2 days.then im going to need to concentrate all my efforts on rebuilding my house.Ill be about from time to time but there wont be any more updates until summer from me after this.Have fun and may the force be with you.

Thanks to all the guys who helped me test the patch.I know you guys did not see the new fx and stuff but me and matt were able to see if everything is working before we move on to the next build phase...

Its good to see so many people understand the sabersystem and actually kicked my ***.As you can see Evolution of Combat not only means the name of the mod as in the saber and combat system evolving.But also the mod is evolving with more bug fixes and additions of new features.

The new Radar (an idea I stole from Battlefront)is working fine on all game types mp and sp.More classes and Class scale fixes on the way also.

2 major sabersystem fixes i found and i also made saberlock a lot smoother by toning it down a bit.

someone requested more sparks from the saber when in a saberlock, so ill look at that.

Singleplayer. Now play Jedi outcast or academy in vanilla mode or play other mods/maps in mod mode. for extra NPC,s, to spice things up.

REFERENCE YOUR Menu complaints:

Personally im not an artist,I'm more about code and animations.I dont mind adding effects to compliment the code changes,but i hate doing menus.For me its just about having the commands i want available at hand.To enhance my play experience.I dont care how it looks.

The menus i made are "Place holders" and matt is currently working on the menus now.We had 2 choices DONT RELEASE THE MOD for another 6 months,giving us time to finish the menus.or ROB some crappy KOTF menus that nobody cares about anyway and throw them in as place holders and release the mod on time.

The engine is finished and good to go.Needs some touches.Yes.But by play testing we find the bugs.Not by making pretty menus.

We released the mod because the Mod "Evolution of Combat" Is ready to go.Only the box or packaging is not finished.

As time goes on. through patches and fixes the mod will evolve.
As long as you support me,hate me,flame me,love me or Ignore me,I dont care.I will keep modding as long as you guys keep playing thats what i care about.Your compliments and complaints keep the mod alive.

A quick message:

I'm currently offline (my house is flooded)and with it being Christmas as well,I do not think im going to be available for some time (Until the house is dry,I've been flooded 3 times in the last 2 months).

However

I've seen the bug reports people have mentioned.
I've taken note of the good points and bad points people have pointed out.
Im working on an update on my laptop,that i will make available to matt for him to post here.

1.Fixed bug where Luke just disappears when he is killed.(MP)
2.More work on class system to fix some bugs and add more classes.(MP+SP)
3.Force block is now automatic when needed (if you have force_block).(MP)
4.LightSaber Ignition flare fixed.(MP)
5.More work completed on Saber system.(MP+SP)
6.Made a separate "Vanilla Game Mode" plugin,for people who want to play JKO/JKA with the Original game NPC and Story set up.(SP)
7.Fixed bug where luke does not show up in some cinematic scenes,causing game freeze.(SP).

I'm away on a business trip at the moment,back at the weekend.
Then ill be able to answer any questions and talk about updates,patches,fixes,secrets and other additions.

I've been offline for the last few weeks and MattFiler has been, and is the official custodian of EoC4.

MattFiler has been under a lot of pressure,he has worked hard,answered all the questions,made some excellent videos ,promoted the mod tirelessly and even taken some flak.
And in return he has asked for nothing.He has remained a trustworthy, constant and reliable friend.

For this effort I would like to thank him personally here for all to see.

Without his enthusiasm Evolution of Combat IV may never have been finished or even released.

I feel a bit like harrison ford does about EP7 TFA .I love Evolution of Combat like he does starwars,but im tired after 5 years and ready to close the book.
So I will say this.If evolution of Combat 4 gets an update/patch or fix.
I will do it it,but "Only if MattFlier works with me on it".He has become a valuable part of EoC4 and it wouldnt work without his imput.

The blocking thing is not a bug mate.

In EoCIII ingame settings,there is a section where you can alter things like saberdamage type,and other things like sizes (cant remember exactly what there called now).But in these settings i think saberdamage scale or sabercombat damage,These setting turn on/off things like saber idle damage.You obviously have the saber idle damage set to on or 1.

Its a setting ,not a bug.

Secondly. Lets look at this from a real (star wars) world point of view.
I turn my lightsaber on.I can hear it humming and even feel the heat coming from the blade.
Then i make a blocking motion from left to right.As i move the beam of light/blade passes through your head.

What do you think is going to happen to your head as the light/blade passes through it?

The real thing is this mate.The BOTS are BOTS and not people,so there is always going to be a way to exploit there weaknesses.
You can do this with a BOT yes.
After the mod is released we can meet on the server
and you can try to do it to me,and see what happens.LOL

1. Uniformity .

It always annoyed me that single player and multi player combat systems were different from each other. I understand why there different but i never liked it anyway.

The first task with the mod is to get mp/sp exactly the same (or a near as dammit) taking into account that 1 is played with 0 latency and the other could be 80-120 ping for some people.

2. Inspirations

My first and most important inspiration is the films.If you truly want to understand EoC sabersystem then you have to really,really watch the sabercombat.

Look how quigon Blocks,Dodges and moves his legs.The pace of attack and defence.He slaps and kicks his enemys "NO SILLY JUMPING ABOUT"

This is where the message is often lost.People compare the sabersystem to base,ojp Moviebattles etc etc.

It should (but sadly never has been) be compared to the movies style.

It contain elements and ideas from all mods,as all mods contain elements from the movies.

My second inspiration is The mods themselves.

Like everybody else i played all the popular mods,but in many cases i found them unbalanced or unfair.
Im not going to name any mods here because i dont want to start any pointless debate about opinions.

However ,In the early days some mods came out and were fantastic but as time went on they got updated and changed and on the way they lost something and it became more about Points and bars on the screen.People look to see the block point bar on the screen and can measure from there BP when to go for a kill.This is predictable and repetitive. It leaves little to the imagination and make sabercombat a simple routing that is followed to the letter or you fail.

I understand its "All about balance" so i decided to go back to basics (stawars basics ,whatever that means!).
Lets stick to sabercombat for now ill talk about guns later.I was in the British army for 18 years so i count myself as a bit of an authority on combat in general .

The sabersystem is built to allow much more freedom of movement.Im not going to talk code here but i did it by chaining and splicing lots of animations code in the sabersystem code.

I have not "AND NEVER WILL" write a tutorial for the sabersystem. I have made a video to get people started

But after that it is up to people to develop there own style- "Feel the force flowing through you".........Who said that?????

The sabersystem in mp and sp is almost identical so practice in the training room with tavion.

Some basic tips.

walking in close saber contact will reduce the amount of force used to block some types of attack .
Accurate blocking will tire your opponent quickly
Use of slaps and kicks in close combat is advised to stun your enemy and create a opening for attack.
Crouch or meditate to regain your forcepowers at x2 speed
Dont let your force powers drop below 25 fp in saber combat, blocking lightning can be very difficult at close range as close lightning now inflicts more damage and costs more to block .Warning Bots and Npc,s can see if your tired or low on fp by your animations and will strike harder if they get a chance.

Im personally a singleplayer fan more than Multiplayer and i can tell you this.If you like Mp sabersystem/anims and A.I then you going to love using the same sabersystem combat system anims etc etc in singleplayer.

Im especially proud of the A.I in sp and spent months on end building there combat.They have about 15 more animations than the player gets.I did this on purpose so they are unpredictable with the animations and can be very hard to kill in some cases.
I made stormtroopers and Imp soldiers relatively hard.They are a well trained army in weapon combat and unarmed combat.They will kick your *** if you get close,they may punch/ kick or butt stroke you with there weapon.

Saber users come in varying difficulty .But there are no un-experianced sith/Jedi in the field of combat. So dont expect them to be easy after they have years of training and experience,And of course if you face Desann or yoda or any "Master" then you can expect megga aggression, Very High speed combat and there force power ability's are Way better than yours...Trust me.If you play sp and spawn yoda in game to help you.Just watch him Kicking ***."HE IS AWESOME TO WATCH".He has his own full animations and seperate saberstyles too.

Small Update for the people watching.

I finished building the mod today.All the feedback and points from the beta phase have been addressed.Now ill be doing some final finishing touches to the mod and it will be moved on the next phase.

Matt will be taking over now and he is going to add his Art skillz to the mod and do final touches.I will let him decide if he want to tell you more......

As i was building the Mod i have been making small video logs of development showing new ideas, scrapped ideas and total failures.
Ill be posting these very small "development teasers" periodically
for you guys to see.
