Thanks for the PM. For those following the public discussion, it's tested and working on versions of GZDoom up to 4-11-3a. I don't know what problem has been introduced by new versions, and would love it if someone who's an actual programmer wants to investigate. Strange things are happening with GZDoom.

I spoke too soon--I'm not quite up to that same version of GZDoom. But I guess it doesn't matter. I wonder why my mod is incompatible with Vulkan.

GZDoom should always have a load console. What would we do without it? I guess I should upgrade and find out.

It's going to be hard to diagnose since I'm using the same version of GZDoom and this doesn't happen to me. What error messages show up in the console? Any that might be relevant?

Not likely, but it's in Rabid's Crap, which uses quite a lot from Brutal Doom.

It should be an option in GZDoom's settings. My mod just forces it to be on.

I don't get that. A decade or more ago, sure, if someone cried about the size of the mod, I get it. But now look at the size of modern hard drives! If you have quality stuff to throw in, why hold back? If people love Total Chaos, they'll love this too. Maybe not everyone, but it's not like you get paid for this...you don't need to maximize sales over quality.

There are only 2 more I'm planning on right now, but plenty more monsters. As it is now, there are 7 weapons in addition to modified versions of all the originals. How many are you looking for/what style weapon am I missing?

I'm glad you like it, anyway. :)

Maybe you're new to this. This mod puts Doom 64 sprites in Doom/Doom 2. I know, it's quite mind-blowing.

I'm not sure I understand your attempt at a colloquialism--"the stylistics of Doom just takes and breaks the knee"?

The contrast between pixelated sprites and walls in high resolution will happen with almost any mod that has walls in high resolution, because there are very few mods that raise the resolution of anything else. My objective here is to get the best version of everything that I can find. I'm gradually upgrading all the sprites to higher resolutions, or else replacing them with models or voxels. There are monster models out there already, but they just don't all look good enough. And to be fair, most of the sprites I'm using should not be too pixelated.

There are more versions to come and there's more work to do. But, uh...thanks for the rating.

...and this when you have 7TB and can just delete it if you don't like it or need more space somehow.

Is it a coincidence that you and Rastamangames showed up at the same time to badmouth my mod?

Again, you haven't downloaded it, so you don't know. If 1.25gb is too much for someone with 7tb, you're just being a jerk trashing it like that. Especially true since if you don't like it, you can *gasp* delete it!

That's one opinion. By someone who apparently hasn't even downloaded it, no less. How much hard drive space do you have?

My mod is for making a 1993 game play like a more modern game, which means it's not dumb. I'm sorry that you have a tiny hard drive, but not everybody does.

Yes, you can download a HDTP for yourself, but I'm customizing this one for my mod, i.e. it is part of the mod and part of the point of the mod.

Have you even opened it to see what's compressed and what isn't? Please don't presume to tell me what to do with it.

I must apologize for my lack of expertise in certain areas. I figure since terabytes are cheap these days, people have plenty of room on their computers. Plus, the mod looks the way it does because it has a lot of high res images, 3D models, etc. Are people really hurting for hard drive space?

Meanwhile, for perspective, Doom Eternal weighs in at 80gb. Don't think I'll ever get to 80. In that way, for what you're getting, 1.25 is astounding.

Dude! Sorry I missed that there were new comments on this. Ray-tracing wasn't something I understood back when I was making this. If you look up my Rabid Levels 1-3 you'll see what I was trying to do. But make sure to use a GZDoom version that automatically gives the columns dynamic lights.

Crazystation was going to be like a whole game in one level, complete with dynamic lighting all over the place, and all the new things I could cram in.

I'm most proud of the room with the Cacodemons in crushers.

Thanks for the request. The only problem here is that I don't have a lot of time to work on this relative to what I want to accomplish. Bots definitely do not figure into my plans. If you know someone or can persuade someone in the community to make a fork of my mods with bots in it, more power to you.

When I was testing it, I didn't have all those problems. Are you using GZDoom or Zandronum? Which version are you using?

Has something to do with this mod, apparently: Moddb.com I added in those plastic shaders a while back. Are you using Vulkan? Try OpenGL and let me know if you're still having a problem.

Funny you should mention that. Once all the weapons are done, I'm going to make a "Rabid Weapons" mod containing all of them. The chainsaw is almost done, and then the Fist has to be done, and that's it...though combining them all might take some time.

Once that's been accomplished, I want to put them all in Rabid's Crap. I'm thinking they'll make it in there by version 20. After that, damagetypes and special deaths will round it all out.

Rabid's Crap is ultimately where all the magic happens. Have you been keeping up with it?

Heh. It's a life I chose and continue to choose. Less time to mod is one of the downsides, but in the grand scheme of things, stuff like this has to take a backseat. Not like this pays the bills. I still get excited about my plans and upcoming mods, and I've got big stuff in the works.

I'm glad I have a fan! I've seen all your comments now and they're flattering, to say the least. As to the stuff you don't like, I hope to get it fixed eventually. I have zero background in programming except what I've learned from modding Doom, so it's a slow and messy process for me. I'm thinking of trying to learn C so I can work effectively with ACS--one of my goals is to mod the Zombieman, Shotgunguy and Chaingunguy so that they target barrels when you're standing next to them. So far Decorate won't do it correctly.

If you want to use anything I've made in something you're working on, go for it! Just don't forget to credit the people I borrowed from. Also, a Youtube video of some gameplay would be cool. Just throwing it out there. ;)

I'm afraid I don't make any of these from scratch, unless that's already a Doom mod. Then I can tweak it and borrow from other mods to make it perfect. When I have time, of course. I'm on a mission, of sorts.

Well I appreciate the feedback, inasmuch as I don't get very much of it. The problem is, at this time I can't see myself getting rid of hi-res sprites or 3D objects. I'm taking the best of everything I can find at any given time. In some cases the 3D models are just exceedingly good, in other cases they suck and there's an awesome sprite that looks way better. When I can upgrade, I do. It's all being displayed on a flat screen anyway, so everything is flat in any given second. The smoother the sprite, the more indistinguishable it should be. I really wish the monster models people have made were better--they really kinda suck, though I appreciate that recently PBR materials have been added to them.

What do you think of the burning barrels in particular? I think the model-sprite (barrel-flame) combo actually looks remarkably confluent. It's pretty disappointing how much the 3D flames that are currently available suck, despite how good the barrels look.

Did you know the sparks are 3D models? Pretty subtle, eh?

Anyway, this mod is far from finished and who knows what changes are in its future? I'd be happy to add in your HD Doom 64/PSX sounds, as it's something I think would be a magnificent upgrade to this! How exactly are you making them? Recreating them or finding the original sources?

Actually, my apologies. I know the problem (or part of it). The latest version of GZDoom got rid of the automatic dynamic lights attached to the lamps. Those lamps are vital for finding your way, especially past the first level! The next version of the mapset will fix it.

Sorry you have issues with it. I have no real desire to patch it for use with Project Brutality or hxtrc ui, but then again I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't only play one way who will get some fun out of it!
