Very cool
From the mod description: "Higher tiers of blacksmith buildings will be unlocked as the campaign progresses, in order to have troops appearances match up with the passage of time. Bronze is available beginning in the 14th century, silver upgrades will become available in the 15th century, and gold in the 16th century."
Some previewed units aren't in the current release because uploading a new version every time a handful of changes are made would get out of hand, especially when the campaign isn't ready yet.
Not terribly long for the Hindustanis, Thai, and Jin, but Java and the Incas will probably take longer. They'll also probably be in that order, with updates to existing factions alongside them.
Yes. Only the five mentioned earlier are not currently in the mod.
France, England, the Holy Roman Empire, the Papacy, Castile, Portugal, Hungary, Poland, Rus', Egypt, Songhai, Japan, and (Song) China have not had a preview yet.
Several factions also have outdated (or soon to become outdated) previews, which is partially why others haven't had one yet.
The campaign will hopefully be playable next year, but no promises.
We will consider adding mounted arquebusiers to the European factions (depends a little on unit slots but we can probably make it happen). Castile and Portugal do already have escopeteros who are blunderbuss cavalry, though of course they fill a different role.
Many more, actually! Only 5 (Hindustanis, Jin, Thai, Java, and Incas) have unit rosters that are not implemented yet.
The lack of previews is because some changes are planned, such as new units or models, and because it takes some time to create one.
Yes, there are some pre-Columbian depictions of brimmed hats. Here's an example: Loc.gov
You did not, the campaign was not playable in this version. We'll be sure to make an announcement when it's ready.
Unfortunately, the faction limit has been reached and we are too far into development for any replacements to be made.
However, you can expect to see a variety of AoR and mercenary units that will represent groups that aren't playable, including in South America.
I'll admit that the 2D art has been treated as a bit of an afterthought, but it is something that will address (not just faction icons, but unit icons too). As for Dai Viet specifically, their faction icon will be a Dong Son drum. All of the new factions and at least a few of the old ones are planned to get new icons.
We havent really touched the current campaign map because we intend to use an entirely new one, which is still being made. But when it's ready, every faction will have a proper starting position and we'll have a better settlement distribution.
Sorry for the super late reply, I missed this somehow. The map does cover that part of the world, but we don't have a faction there. I could still use some models though.
It may have been an oversight. I'll be sure to let him know.
Hoysala is near completion, now with an authentic southern Indian roster (which is a first for MTW2; both vanilla Falcom and Eras only have northern Indian units). Expect a preview of them soon.
The new campaign map is also progressing well. I'll be sure to share an in-game screenshot once it's ready.
Well, thanks! I was super busy with uni the past few months so I haven't been making much progress, but now I'm back.
Back on the grind after a pretty long hiatus (was busy with college); currently working on Egypt and Hoysala.
Thanks for the support!
There are actually only 5 faction rosters left to be created (Incas, Hindustan, Jin, Thailand, Java), although several others (mainly Egypt, China, and Korea) are getting a revisit to bring them up to standards.
Campaign-wise, the new terrain map is very close to completion, though after that there is still elevation, climate, and regions to implement.
You will be able to play custom battles, including multiplayer if you have other friends with the same version of the mod installed.
The campaign isn't playable yet, though.
Thanks! What you are describing is correct, and the al-Halqa often fought as cavalry. However, the term thaqlah is better as a generic term for heavy infantry.
Thanks, I also like adding cloth because colour is always nice to have.
