Hey man, knock yourself out, I can't speak for the others but if you want to do it, go ahead. Can't help much more than that, I don't have the source files anymore due to backup HDD failure.

Sounds like a plan!
Big IF... I'm looking for the files for the unreleased version that had tons of extra content. This won't be ported to ZH but if I can find and finish that last version I will.
MTS is gone and won't be back, but I'm looking into TCS as we had an internal version that had a huge amount of added content that was never released.
And after more than a decade out of hobbyist games, I've joined the WOLVES team to do Mechs and Environments for them, WOLVES is a MechAssault fan game, check it out: Moddb.com
Can't download, it's unavailable.
That's quite a wake-up call. I know Steam does have a filter of sorts, not every game gets accepted, but I thought Desura was pretty much "open to everything" as part of the IndieDB/ModDB community. It's even weirder considering every zombie game on the face of the earth gets accepted anywhere, but exploration platformers are snubbed? Hmm...
I'm gonna download the demo and see what I think of it.
Are you on TIGSource? They have a great and active forum community, full of well-known indie developers, and even a devlog forum so projects can be discussed and updated with test builds and feedback. I recommend you join if you haven't already: Tigsource.com
Agreed, would love to see the other 3 games here on Desura.
Damn, haven't been to our old page in years. Shame we never finished it, after DA our coder left, nobody picked up his work and we slowly died, even though on the content side we had more stuff ready to go. I think we didn't even release our last build, which contained more mechs, music, factions, and artwork! Ah, the memories... good times! To everyone that enjoyed the mod over the years, thanks, it was all for the community!!
Well, visually, you can see how it "mimics" Killzone 2. I'm downloading now, it seems cool (specially since i'm a big Terminator fan, and actually worked as an environment artist on Terminator Salvation), but it's only a matter of time until you guys get a C&D from Halcyon or whoever owns the licence now.
No, we're not. This was closed back 2 years ago, we have nothing to do with the guys making the mod for Crysis (they were doing it for ETQW but recently changed).
Hassan: sorry, no clans here. However, there are a few clan mechs in-game, as you've probably already seen!
Dimingo: it's for Generals only, but we're working on a ZH version.
Hey Meldric,
Really, i understand you, i do, and we did mean what we said. The problem was that one thing is to develop a mod with a limited team, with a great amount of difficulty, and i know you know that. That's the part we were "here to stay".
Another entirely is to have EA, DICE, and by their influence, most of the community news sites against us. EA and DICE basically blacklisted us, even going as far as demanding the main community sites to stop carrying news about us. Nobody has admitted this, but it wasn't coincidence that suddenly NOBODY from news sites would reply to us either, and wouldn't carry any news we sent them. Not even TotalBF2, a site which we watched still in closed beta, and had close relations with, they suddenly just stopped responding to us.
At the time we didn't know why, we just met a wall of silence. Of course, a few months later, we learned why: BF2142, that is. MTS was gonna be like it, but better in the sense that it draws on a rich fictional, existing universe, and most of the "new" features in BF2142 were gonna be in MTS.
Blacklisting us because we were developing something for free which they were gonna try to sell with BF2142 was a business decision on their part. I just don't understand why the hell did they need to resort to such tactics.
Anyway, this is all public, so i'm not here to whine about it. Development of MTS on any EA/DICE engine is a no-go because of what they did to us, and can still do. It's a lose-lose situation.
As for another engine, like ETQW.... let's just say we prefer to develop our own IP now, rather than use someone elses (aka Fanpro's and Wizkids').
But we're not back guys. The project was closed in October 2005, and will remain closed. Your best bet is the mod Mektek are making for ETQW.
Hehe thanks man! I hope it works out this time :)
Yep, standalone, retail game with reworked Doom 3 engine, set in the Quake universe.
Hey Rad, good to see you! :)
Well, DICE can't code to save their lives... i think ETQW will be better than BF2.
While i understand most comments on the yes part, it does pain me that whenever a mod i'm at fails, suddenly 10 guys pop up to ask for our stuff in their *similar* themed mod, or to poach our team members. So i voted No, because if you want our assets for your similar mod, why didn't you join our in the first place and help out? It's basically the symptom of the mod community having 1000 CS clones, and everybody wants the spotlight and to be famous.
Instead of asking me for my materials when my mod fails / dies, so their mod can have a great start, our develop a lot more, they should have been helping me, or me helping them. Bottom line, there shouldn't have been two teams doing the same.
Well, this is indeed an issue of much debate. On one hand, mixing money and mods might bring about a "corruption", a level of commercialism and greed which haven't (for a large part) been a part of the community.
On the other hand, i do know my modding, and the development of my skills, are greatly affected by the fact that i need to have a day job, i need to feed myself, pay the bills, occasionally i need a new piece of hardware or software to work due to malfunctions or upgrades. It would also help out in having, for example, a good server to serve as a base to your mod, maybe even some outsourcing of game art assets or concept art.
Having some kind of scheme to gain some financial rewards from modding would be beneficial in the sense that it would enable the modders to concentrate on their work, thus contributing to their overall quality. And i'm mainly speaking money just so we could do what we do, not really as pure profit or to buy much better equipment. Money just to get by and live.
Derek, great article. I do have one question - you mentioned the EULAs forbid selling the mod, but not unique contents, or access to the downloads. What about in-game advertizing on the mod, just as we're starting to see in the industry, would this be legal?
Yep, i have high hopes for this! The Humans will be based on current technology, bullets, regular vehicles ans stuff like that - the Strogg will have high-tech stuff, plasma cannons, lasers, anti-grav, even a Mech. So they'll play a bit differently, IMO.
If you read the October news item, you'd know BF2 doesn't handle Mechs - it cant be done. Plus it's buggy as hell. The D3 technology ETQW is based on is much superior, day/night cycles, per-pixel lighting, megatextures, specular mapping, configurable renderer, advanced environmental fx, all these are lacking in BF2.
Thanks for the support guys!
@Nereus: it's for Generals only.
@HaloStrike: download the mod and run the installer. It's as simple as that.
I've already said 350 times this mod is, and had been DEAD for more than a year, and several team members moved to The Capellan Solution mod.
It says 100% complete because this was the only goal meant to achieve by the team initially. They tried again later, but that didn't end up happening.
I fail to see the point in making a thumb for such a small image. Besides, this is a series, and there have never been problems like this before.
Anyway, that doesn't matter.
Ah, that's sad to hear, although i totally understand you - TCS is in the final stages, but we are having some difficulties finishing it, due to our coder going MIA.
Yep, still have MSN, it's masakari@battletechmodproductions.com
Awesome stuff guys, really looking forward to Dystopia! It's shaping up to be a dream mod, if only i had time to help you guys out lolol :|
Eagerly awaiting this :)
Thanks for the support Shrimpcraft! :)
