The Expanse is an example of a good modern sci-fi show. Discovery is expensive schlock history will put alongside the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Consider how well the Mandalorian has done by comparison. You don't succeed by betraying your roots.
Yeah it's not 100% lore accurate, but within the realm of possibility. I can't see any reason why ships like the Connie could not have continued to serve in the kind of role the excelsior came to by the TNG era. And it's a fair bet older ships would have been brought out of mothballs to fight the border wars. The lost era leaves open a lot of room to put your own spin on canon.
I agree militarism is never a good thing. This debate in my opinion is more broadly about authoritarianism vs democracy - or whatever the Federation chooses to call it's system (we never find out much about its political system). Without all the very advanced technology and resources the Federation has access to, Cardassia had to make some very hard decisions about its priorities.
If we look at the corona virus pandemic irl, the countries which have handled the virus best tend to be authoritarian, or at least lean that way with populations whose culture predisposes them to listen to what the government says rather than view it with suspicion. Authoritarian systems tend to be good at focusing on a problem and solving it (yes, there are exceptions like Banana republics). You could point to Australia and New Zealand as democracies which have done relatively well, but we lucked out with our geography. Not having land borders with other nations has been a huge help, and even so, we've still managed to screw up hotel quarantine of citizens returning from overseas on several occasions.
I'd also point out that the most successful authoritarian regimes are not gulags like we see in fiction. Most people in China for example have a pretty high degree of personal freedom, so long as you don't do anything which threatens the position of the ruling party. This is anecdotal, but my girlfriend uses a VPN to get around the censorship of foreign websites and has yet to encounter any trouble from the authorities. She has a lot of criticisms of the government, but doesn't broadcast them. You can check out Naomi Wu @RealSexyCyborg on Twitter as another example of someone who has managed to push the boundaries of freedom of speech while avoiding serious consequences from the authorities (she has been "invited for tea" in the past). I've seen Chinese people regularly get away with things which would never be tolerated in my country. The law is like an elastic band over there. It can be bent and stretched, but only to a point. You need to know the grey areas and the red lines you can't cross.
TLDR: I agree with Orion that Picard needs to check his privilege and look at the bigger picture. The Cardassians have been made a bit of a cartoon villain by various ST writers.
I like the way you guys have set up the two factions to have ships from different time periods but still be able to play together in a single game without breaking canon.
I've always hated Picard's comeback to this: "Her belly may be full, but her spirit will be empty". **** that you spoiled human whose species hasn't known poverty for hundreds of years. A full "spirit" means nothing if you're dead from starvation. Priorities, captain.
Where the Cardassians went wrong was going full fascist and their arrogant imperialism against worlds like Bajor.
Not sure about abilities, but the Titan thing is a problem with the base game since one of the DLCs game out. Modders can't do a whole lot about it unfortunately. We might have to wait for a patch if one is ever forthcoming.
A point I would make is that even modern navy ships have a windowed bridge for mark I eyeball observation, though there is a protected CIC inside the ship where the captain gives orders from. It makes sense to me that Federation ships would have a protected bridge with a view"screen" since they are multi-role. Can be used for combat, but it's not their primary purpose.
At first I wished the mod would have nothing to do with STD/Disco, but your redesign is growing on me. It looks like it could be the Connie's mum... or grandma maybe. gilfs anyone?
I stand alone and gaze upon the battlefield
Wasteland is all that's left after the fight
And now I'm searching a new way to defeat my enemy
Bloodshed - I've seen enough of death and pain
I will run, they will hunt me in vain
I will hide, they'll be searching
I'll regroup, feign retreat they'll pursue
Coup de grace - I will win but never fight
That's the Art of War
That's the Art of War
Breaking the will to fight among the enemy
Force them to hunt me they will play my game
And play by my rules I will be close but still untouchable
No more will I see suffering and pain
They will find me no more I'll be gone
I will have them surrounded
They will yield without fight overrun
Coup de grace I will win but never fight
That's the Art of War
That's the Art of War
Really looking forward to playing when time permits. Re: release approach. I like the idea of smaller, more frequent updates. It's fun to test out new stuff as it arrives.
"Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Rode the six hundred."

Is this an Ambassador refit or a totally new class?
No titans in this mod, mostly due to the AI I think. It will be the strongest ship in the 1st fleet though.

I love the way you guys have split the factions, especially for the feds. Will it be possible to have TMP fed vs TMP Klingon/Romulan matches?
I never get sick of that intro song. I still haven't had a chance to play Beneath the Raptor's Wings to my great regret, but looking forward to this!

Beautiful.
Nice aft.
Sorry. Had to do it.
Treachery will get you everywhere.
Spank dat aft.
I had a game yesterday and noticed the AI isn't building titans. Is this a known issue?
Beautiful.
Ah. I forgot about that.

Also, for a tense track
The mod's sound track is missing one song for battles:

Must. Not. Procrastinate.
Excellent. It's unfortunate I won't have much time to play until a few weeks later.
Great work all. Looking forward to testing.
Well this will make for an interesting captain's personal log.
I confess to checking moddb every day for another screenshot and side story. Makes great coffee break reading.
Great work.
