Ages of the Federation 2 is the upcoming second installment in our series of total conversions for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. The mod takes place primarily from The Motion Picture Era (TMP) and during The Lost Era (TLE), focusing on the border conflict between the United Federation of Planets and the Cardassian Empire. The Klingons, ever ready for battle are poised to launch war on those they consider worthy of their mettle and as always, the Romulan Star Empire stands ready to take advantage of any perceived weakness to advance its own secretive aims.

I guess the one in left is the Enterprise-C-type, the right one Yamaguchi-type.

Correct. The ship on the left is the original-spec Ambassador-class, while the ship on the right is its Yamaguchi-pattern refit. They will form important parts of the 8th and 1st Fleets respectively.

I like the way you guys have set up the two factions to have ships from different time periods but still be able to play together in a single game without breaking canon.

We try. Generally gameplay trumps canon but we really care about the canon and put a fair bit of effort into keeping everything faithful.

Yeah it's not 100% lore accurate, but within the realm of possibility. I can't see any reason why ships like the Connie could not have continued to serve in the kind of role the excelsior came to by the TNG era. And it's a fair bet older ships would have been brought out of mothballs to fight the border wars. The lost era leaves open a lot of room to put your own spin on canon.

Many TMP-era ships served well into the late 24th Century. Some, like the Oberth, Miranda and Excelsior, remained in full service for that entire time. Others, like the Constellation and many Miranda variants, were relegated to lower-priority missions or workhorse duties - hence the 8th Fleet being described in the mod as an active reserve unit.

The Constitution-class' role is definitely debatable, but it's certainly plausible that one or two examples were still active in some capacity into the TNG-era. The USS Republic, for example, is used to train cadets.

This might be the most beautiful ship-class ever designed for the Federation. It lacks the strange oval-shapes of the TNG-era ships but you can clearly see, where the designs will go.

Wonderful shot!
