Heya, You can't switch to the Doom 3 hud but you can hide it from the options menu.
Click options and 3rd down on the left you'll see the option "Show hud" click it and it'll switch to "no" then click back and that's you.
Hopefully that helps.

Heya, there is no true native linux build of the game, the source code is out there for anyone and everyone to contribute so hopefully someone can compile a true version.

But I have tested the project in wine myself with knoppix, mint, and arch and it runs perfectly as expected, wine is great.

But yeah the performance drops your having there you'd have in windows too, maybe a little lower than I'd expect when looking down there in e1m3 though.

One thing that needs done to the levels which would improve appearance and at same time a little performance is to disable specular properties of some lights in the scenes.

The worst offender to the performance is E1M4b only when you get to the end of the level.
The reason for the performance hit there is, because the level opens up to reveal the whole level from end to end when the walls come down, and every vis portal is open to each other which is preventing good culling of the level geometry.
Which means parts of the level that don't need rendered are being rendered.

Also hopefully programmer updates the opengl renderer to opengl4 because nothing really on screen is that taxing by todays standards but the levels are complex by what idtech4 can do.
There's alot of lights, alot of monsters on screen all the time. Bigger more open areas.
Regardless of that E1M8b runs surprisely better than expected especially compared to E1M4b

But yeah if the majority of the lights have the specular value turned off for them like they should've been you'd maybe get a bit of a performance boost from that, I wish I had known that when going over all the lights for 1.65's release.
I suspect there'd still be room for major improvement on the code side if multicore support was added, but that's beyond me.

Heya, Hopefully this makes sense when you translate this back.

To have your resolution you want all the time you'll need to put your settings in the "Autoexec.cfg" file.
add r_customwidth "****" and r_customheight "****"
Add the settings again to the "RebornConfig.cfg" file.
If you've done this right, then the resolution you want will be the new default for your game. :)

Sorry for the late reply.

Saves are already supported, Quick save using F5 and Quick load using F9 or using the load game section in the menu.
You'll also get a Autosave at the start of every level that can be loaded anytime using the load game section in the main menu :)

Heya Thanks very much, If your getting the same issue as this person it's because of the default resolution being higher than you can support
Initializing OpenGL subsystem
...registered window class
...registered fake window class
...initializing QGL
...calling LoadLibrary( 'opengl32' ): succeeded
...1920x1080 is unsupported in 32 bit
Shutting down OpenGL subsystem

To fix this you need to go into your "DoomReborn" folder (C:\Program Files\Doom Reborn\DoomReborn" and open the "RebornConfig.cfg" using notepad and change these 2 settings to a lower resoultion you use
r_customwidth
r_customheight

If you use 1280x720 for your desktop resolution then change the settings to
r_customwidth 1280
r_customheight 720

Let me know how you get on and if you need anymore help :)

Yeah I made a mistake when creating the installer, I should've included a "\Doom Reborn" in the default address. Sorry about that :(
I've made a note in the article pointing out this oversight.

Heya, That sounds a install location problem, I've put a message up on the homepage.
Due to a oversight when making the installer the default address should be changed from
"C:\Program Files\"
To
"C:\Program Files\Doom Reborn"
When picking somewhere else to install, Make sure you put a "\DoomReborn" in the address
Sorry for the mistake

If you try a reinstall put a "\Doom Reborn" at the end of install address and try again :)

No sorry the source code hasn't been ported to RBDoom3BFG.

It'll be in the selected install location,
If you used the default instasll location it's going to be in program files :(, You will have a start menu shortcut for it as well :)
I'm uploading an amended version of the installer to include "Doom Reborn" in the default address making it "C:\Program Files\Doom Reborn"
Sorry for the trouble

Yeah BlazeGames28 is right he beat me to it :)
You'd have to delete the rebornconfig.cfg in the doomreborn folder as well so the autoexec.cfg creates the new rebornconfig.cfg with the new starting resolution for you :)
Hope you got it sorted and enjoy the game :)

No sorry there is no controller support,
You can follow this tutorial to change the resolution from the command console
Moddb.com

But if your not able to see that for some reason,
You can go into the doom reborn folder and open the "RebornConfig.cfg" and edit the same settings you'll see in the tutorial page, and then click save and relaunch the game :)

That'd be awesome, There would need to be a multiplayer section for the menu made. Which I can't do by myself. I haven't got that kind of coding skills :(
I'm more of artist than a programmer :(

Heya sorry for the late reply, I wanted check with a few other people first before I replied.
I've had a couple of people test the installer on their windows 10 systems for me and no one had issues.
You must have higher restriction levels on your system, that's my guess.
But something you can try
The installer is a simple WinRar self extraction .exe and can be opened by WinRar and extracted manually from the WinRar program it's self.
You could try that as a work around RarLabs.com
Or run the installer as a administrator.
Hopefully this helps :)

Heya, well currently i'm not working on any more levels I'm hoping the community gets involed to continue the project further, at the moment i'm focusing on polishing the project as it is currently.
Map31 of Doom 2 "Wolfenstein" is already done ;)
If you look at the bottom of the article
you can see the level list and my progress of the lighting overhal for 1.65
Once that's done i'll be doing the other stuff I mentioned before for 1.65. :)

Good karma+1 vote
gamehacker
gamehacker @ Doom Reborn

Heya i'm almost done with the lighting overhal but before I release 1.65 there is a couple of things I want to still do to the current levels which are adding new easter eggs and tweaking a couple of minor things,
Example in 1.61 if the player unlocks E1M4b in E1M3 by finding all the easter eggs in E1M3 if they choose to go to E1M9 they would be taken to E1M4 instead of E1M4b
So in 1.65 I'll have it set up to take you to E1M4b instead if you go to E1M9
About a release date, Well unfortunately it's too soon for me to put a date on it yet, but it's almost ready, it's getting there ;)

But no you won't need 1.61, I will be doing a full release again with 1.65 due to more changes I have done and will be making before release. :)

Heya, The letter X is actually missing from the font pack so the letter X isn't displayed in E1M3, another font pack needs created.
The source code can be downloaded from the github page anyone that wants to update it.
Github.com

If you want to muck around with the game scripts you can open the .pk4 files by renaming them to .zip
You can take a copy of the files you want to update and put a mod out by making another .pk4 the newest .pk4 will be read when multiple .pk4's with the same files exsist.

Heya Bermanator2000 sorry for the late reply, The SS Soldier sounds came for dafama's mod I meant to remove them till they could be tied to only Map31 of Doom 2, They won't be in the next update.
Also anyone and everyone is welcome to make a mod for Doom Reborn and update it as they like. Personally I would really like to see people continue the levels and update the code.
But if you want to update the sounds and put it out as a update that's fine by me :)

Heya sorry I missed your message earlier, Thanks for checking it out feel free to tweak anything you like, go nuts with it if you want :D (I'm not just talking about the source code ;) )
the save game tweak was made by me and complied by Jonny, Jonny set up the github page for us at the time, The note for the save game wasn't commented but all I did was set the version number in the savegame.h (I think, or savegame.cpp) with the added ".1304" at the end. I think it was in the description at the top of the ".h" file I read it or on the idtech4 iddev page, I read something that lead me to believe a conflict happened when it was missing from Brents complied versions. So when Jonny compiled the source with the change and quick saves just worked we believed it must've just been that missing version number at the end because Jonny couldn't see anything else that could've been the problem, and he hadn't begun to make his own changes yet,
Brents other changes in the 1.2.exe have been lost to time :(
So what we've got is a older version that Brent had with Jonny's red flash damage and the quick saves fixed. Stats screen code needs setup again but i'm sure you probably know many other things can be done too :)

aye the black boxes are missing assets, I'm not sure whats going on with the soldiers if it's working for the imps
if your adjusting a settings that starts with a "//Burnaway" or "/*Burnaway*/" the // and /* *** */ are comments meaning the engine will ignore these settings as though they are removed
Ether way though I expect burnaway would work the same for the soldiers imps etc the same but I could be wrong since the soldiers desolve really compared to the imp's etc

Good karma+1 vote
gamehacker
gamehacker @ Doom Reborn

The graphical issues if they are black boxes it's because the enhancedgore probably is trying to use doom 3 assets that are no longer used.
if you put the defs with the increased burnaway times in dafama2k7's zzz .pk4's it should work.
