A unique cross between a city builder and a real time strategy game. The key to the game is the castle; designing it, managing it and defending it.
The original castle sim, Stronghold allows you to design, build and destroy historical castles. Engage in medieval warfare against the AI in one of two single player campaigns or online with up to 8 players.
Story
With 21 missions to test your mettle and four renegade lords to defeat, it is up to you to reunite medieval England and take back your lands from the treacherous Rat, Pig, Snake and Wolf. Missions range from breaking sieges and capturing enemy castles to raising gold and holding off enemy attacks. Also featured is a full economic campaign, tasking players to gather resources and build weapons within the time limit.
HD Edition
With new high resolution graphics you have more control over your soldiers than ever before. The new HD battlefield view allows you to zoom out and play in real-time, with the whole map on one screen. Advance on the castle gates while flanking the enemy from behind, feign retreat and lead your foe into a deadly trap or just sit back and watch the destruction unfold.

One of my favorite games ever. Just has so much replayability, and I personally think the atmosphere is nicer and more relaxing than Crusader.
Great game, but i think its better and easier to snatch on some GOG promo.

the target of this petition is to force firefly to add skirmish like in crusader, to stronghold 1 or release the gm1 code so we can mod it. firefly must release also tools like AIV and new ones for modifying the AI's army selection and the ability to add new fully configurable AI opponents.

what firefly do in return?
releases stronghold crusader "extreme" a pathetic excuse of a game with no point what so ever. instead of adding skirmish in the existing one stronghold 1.
We sent massages but we get nothing in return. all we see its a faceless company!
they don't want to release gm1 code, and so we cant mod.
if they want to keep it secret ok but in return do what we want!
WE are buying and you sell it.
What we want is:
1)add skirmish like in crusader, to stronghold 1 OR release the gm1 code so we can mod it.
2)release also tools like AIV, and new ones for modifying the AI's army selection, and attack methods.
3)the ability to the user to add new fully configurable AI
opponents.(faces,voices,animation,army customization.ect..)
We will not buy any of your games if you don't proceed as we ordered.
A great goal but probably never will be achieved...

Crusader is the best but it has desert setting only and the first game is good if you can wrote you way throughout all the functions without tutorials.
Past the original good izometric 2D Stronghold the rest is crap.
A new one is in the making though.
I liked Stronghold 3, it kept very true to the first one, only the wall building was too different.
