From the 1st of December to the 20th we asked quite a bit of our community, we asked that you decide what Indie games you think are the best titles for 2011. We tallied up the votes for best upcoming Indies and arranged them into a top 5.
Ladies and Germs these are your top 5 upcoming Indie games for 2011.
To qualify for the top 5, the game must place higher than it has in previous years and must have had a significant update in 2011. Otherwise an honorable mention is given, which these teams have received:
Having won last years event Natural Selection 2 has just managed to place somewhere within the top 5, however you cannot win twice, honorable mention it is!
5Project Zomboid
is an open-ended zombie-infested sandbox. It asks one simple question – how will you die? Whether surviving in Knox County free-roam or controlling Indie Stone mascot Baldspot in his quest to save his injured wife Kate – death is always a certainty. Quite how long you manage to put it off is another matter…
4Dear Esther
is a ghost story, told using first-person gaming technologies. Rather than traditional game-play the focus here is on exploration, uncovering the mystery of the island, of who you are and why you are here. Fragments of story are randomly uncovered when exploring the various locations of the island, making every each journey a unique experience.
3Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
a first-person medieval online combat game that seeks to deliver the intensity of epic hollywood medieval block busters to the hands of a gamer. CHIVALRY hurls the player into a fictional medieval world where the Agathian Knights are battling against the newly formed Mason Order for control of the lands of Agatha.
2Renegade X
is a tactical First and Third Person Shooter with Real Time Strategy elements, set in the Command & Conquer universe. It is a high quality award-winning free indie game being created on the Unreal Development Kit. Originally, Renegade X was originally an Unreal Tournament 3 mod.
1Overgrowth
takes place in the savage world of Lugaru where rabbits, wolves and other animals are forced to use paws, claws and medieval weaponry to engage each other in battle. Combining 3rd person adventure platforming with intricate melee combat, Overgrowth achieves a unique feel.
Nice. Glad to see Renegade X made it so far!
Congratulations to the winners!
Congratulations to those who won
Congrats to all
Congrats guys :)
Congrats to all! I'm really glad to see Overgrowth in first, I've been following them for a while, and I've been consistently impressed with what they've done!
Interesting choice, well deserved to all. Congrats to the team of all dev teams.
Overgrowth is definitely 1st, mainly because of the pace of development and release of update videos, that the team constantly explain their technology and motivates people into learning something actually helpful in game development...
Overgrowth is filled with technology that really interests me, because they constantly try new stuff to both optimize and improve the game...
Like that polygon 'adjusting' tech that lowers resource use while keeping it's look at long distance, and that 'sprite' swapper when a model is too far away, to save rendering.
Most especially is that latter technology, because not everyone's 3D game has them using 2d sprites for long distance 3d objects...
Overgrowth earned that 1st spot just with their great engine, let alone their cool art direction. Good work all you devs!
Star Trek: Excalibur should be on this list......
I just love how you have basically posted the same response on both IOTY awards so far.
congrats to all!
GO GO GO CHIVALRY!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
Yeah, personally I just can't wait for Medieval Warefare!
It's been a while since there's been a first person trading game. >_>
Curious why Natural Selection 2 isn't on the list this year, like last year, not that I want it to be, but merely in the sense of wondering what made it drop off the list entirely, isn't it still released and wasn't it first or second last year?
Did people lose attention for it, or did the others on this list just got a ton more popularity than it?
Merely asking out of curiosity.
Did you even bother to read what they wrote ?
Obviously not :D
Reading is for heathens, true ducklings post before they read!
:(
Congratulations to the winners!
However I`d love to se a detailled scoreboard online.
Second for a full and detailed scoreboard.
Aye, and include the top 10 or 15 or so.
Congratz to everyone!
@IvanErtlov, that would be awesome!
3 I love in the top 5 and 2 that have me interested!
Congrats to these awesome games. :)
congrats to all
nice job !
Congratulations to all!
Great looking titles in this top 5, well done everyone. Congratulations.
Surprised at there being no placing for Star Trek: Excalibar or Interstellar Marines, both being some quite hotly anticipated work, but their time will come I guess.
Once again congrats to the winners here, well deserved.
Zombie survival, walking around on an island listening to someone talk, medieval warfare, multiple perspective shooter, ninja rabbit combat.
HM, ONE OF THESE THINGS SEEMS REALLY OUT OF PLACE.
Yeah Zomboid is the only 'generic' one there. The genre shouldn't fool you though it seems to be different from every other zombie game.
I was actually ripping on Dear Esther because it is not a game at all.
Thank you all for your votes, We are very excited to see Chivalry: Medieval Warfare come in at 3rd place and this award makes the holidays extra special for our team this year. I hope to see you all on the battlefield in 2012 so I can give you proper respect as true men should- Blade to Blade! If you are just discovering our game, please find out more on our site at www.ChivalrytheGame.com
@TALON_UK I'm ripping my hair out waiting to play Star Trek: Excalibur, it looks awesome!
"Fourth" Place. Just because it's "forty" and not "fourty", doesn't mean it applies anywhere else. See "fourteen". I'm just saying.
Overgrowth's top spot is well-deserved. I'm also very looking forward to Natural Selection 2. The others look interesting and I will have to check them out.
havent heard anything from dear esther wasent it just 1 release a long time ago then that was it?
I knew Overgrowth would win :D
Besides Chivalry these would be my selection (no hate to Chivalry, just not my "choise" but i do give a really, big thumbs up to them too ^^)
Gratz to guys :D and Merry Christmas
Lots of Love, CW
Congrats to the folks behind the game in the top 5! What about the other genres in the "upcoming" category?
primal carnage should be on the list, it did it to the third place last year just behind overgrowth, overgrowth its an awesome game im glad it won
What is the very first song in the intro? I need to know, it's wonderful.
I never knew Originally renegade x was originally an unreal tournament 3 mod. *cough
