Post tutorial Report RSS Using thorgrim map editor to create a map for mount and blade warbands

This a basic tut on how to use TME(thorgrim map editor) for creating a map for your own mod. Im not saying this is the right way, i just couldnt find any tuts to tell me this stuff,so here it is. It worked for me, so hopefully it will work for you too.

Posted by on - Basic Mapping/Technical

First you need TME, so google it and download it if you dont have it already.

TME was designed for the orignal mount and blade and you have to do some file giging in order to use it.
First make a copy of your orignal M+B(1.011) native module folder map.txt and map_icons.txt and parties.txt and do the same for your warband files. Put them somewhere and dont touch them for the duration of the tutoral, if anything goes wrong or you mess up a step, just copy paste these back into there rightfull place.

Now to begin, copy paste your warband files(map.txt + map_icons.txt + parties.txt ) into your orignal m+b(1.011) native module folder. Then go to you program files and go to "M&BMapEditor " and then into "editerdata" and then open your settings file and change the the mbpath to "mbPath=C:/Program Files/Mount&Blade". or where ever you have installed it.

NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT
Run TME As an Administator. so right click and select like the third option form the top or so, "Run as Administrator"

If you dont do this you wont be able to move any icons on the map.

Now you can edit the map, you should be able to move everything except villages. You can also add whatever you like.

so edit the map to what ever you like. when you happy with your new map, you can move all the castles and citys and bridges to where ever you like, for villages follow bellow.

For moving villages i opened notepad take down the name of the village in notepad, and in TME press the z key of where you want to save it. the co-ords will be saved to your clipboard so just go back to your notepad and paste in the new co-ords next to the village name.
When your finished save your text file.

Now is where stuff gets tricky,
If you are creating your own mod and have the module system it will be much easier to continue. and you can just skip the next step (green step). Otherwise follow the bellow step(yellow step).

If you dont have the module system your going to have to edit the Parties.txt file manualy, open it up and CTRL-f and paste in the name of the village and change the co-ords to the ones you copied into your notepad file. do this for all the villages, now save and reopen TME(AS ADMINISTRATOR) to make sure the villages have moved. If they have you can just copy paste map.txt + map_icons.txt + parties.txt from m+b orignal(1.011) that you have now edited and paste them back into your warbands folder.
Now if you start a new game the map should be changed and towns and stuff should all have moved.

If you have the module system, you will need this tool Forums.taleworlds.com when you have downloaded and unpacked this tool, make a copy of your module_parties.py python file somewhere, then paste it into the same folder as this tool. also copy paste in the paties.txt file from your m+b orignal(1.011) folder to this tools folder, then run the tool as administrator. now you module_parties.py should be the same as the new parties.txt you created.
Now open up module_parties.py in an editor and open up that notepad we saved earlier with the village co-ords, in the .py press CTRL-f and find your villages easy that way, copy paste in your new co-ords to replace the co-ords in the .py file. i have pasted in a line from the .py file and put the numbers to change in red. If you want to change the name change the blue.

("village_11","Dusturil", icon_village_a|pf_village, no_menu, pt_none, fac_neutral,0,ai_bhvr_hold,0,(137.20,-36.50),[],100)

When your happy you have all your new village cords in the correct place, copy paste in map.txt + map_icons.txt + parties.txt from your m+b orignal(1.011) into your mod folder, and then copy ONLY the module_parties_new.py form that tool you downloaded's folder and paste it into your module system folder. (provided you have made a copy of module_parties.py) now delete the module_parties.py from the folder and rename your module_parties_new.py to module_parties.py . Now run the module system the .py files will overwrite the .txt files in your mod folder.

So now your mod should have a new map, and a parties.txt with all your new locations.

This worked for me, i cant promise it will work for you.

If anyone has any questions fire away in the comment section, or im me. or if i missed anything or made a mistake please let me know and i will update the tut.

another good tutorial is Forums.taleworlds.com .

Happy modding.

You will have to add it manually in the txt files, then you can move it around in the map editor.

You need to manualy alter the settigns path.
in C:\Program Files (x86)\M&BMapEditor;\editorData\settings.cfg
You have to change the mbPath to point to your mount and blade (original, not warband) installation folder. e.g
mbPath=C:/Program Files (x86)/Mount&Blade;

Sigh, I was following along with this until I realized this is all assuming I have the original Mount & Blade, which I don't.
