This tutorial shows you how to get a mod to work correctly with Empire at war or the Forces of Corruption Expansion.

Launching mods with a Retail copy

Assuming you have downloaded your Mod already, it should contain a folder that reads Data, contained within whatever mod you have downloaded. I.E. (RoTM), (RaW), (FX_MOD), (AEM1.5)
Within your main Forces of Corruption Directory, you should create a folder called Mods - As written.
Place your downloaded mod folder into your Mods folder.
For example:
C/Program Files/LucasArts/Star Wars Empire at War (or FOC)/Mods

Once you have done that, you can create your own launcher as a batch file, or download one.

1. Creating your own Mod Shortcut for FOC and EAW

Create a Notepad and within, write the following

swfoc MODPATH=Mods\(MOD FOLDER NAME)

Save it as a .bat
You can make as many of these as you need. You should keep them in you EAW/FOC directory. Make shortcuts to the batch files if you want.

For Empire at War, put the mod files in your EAW mods directory. Then in the notepad write

sweaw MODPATH=Mods\(MOD FOLDERNAME)

2. Using a Mod Launcher

If you're too lazy to do that, follow this link

Moddb.com

It's a very effective mod launcher, and is one of the few I have found that works properly. I don't think it matters where you install it to, as long as you have a legitimate retail copy of the game (i.e. Not through Steam, or a BitTorrent).

Launching mods with steam

In principal, installing for an eaw steam version is essentially the same thing as the retail version. Only difference is that both the EaW base game, and its expansion are contained within the Star Wars Empire at War folder. Within that folder, there is the 'corruption' folder. This is the FOC directory, and where FOC mods go. With that knowledge, simply repeat the steps as you would installing any other mod. The launching method, however, is where steam differs from retail.
Instead of making a .bat file, simply right click the game in your steam library. Go to Properties. Under the general tab, click SET LAUNCH OPTIONS. Type in one of the following depending on which game your mod is for.
sweaw MODPATH=Mods\(MOD FOLDERNAME)
swfoc MODPATH=Mods\(MOD FOLDERNAME)
After that, simply pick whether to launch eaw or foc, and your mod should launch.

What NOT to do

You should NEVER use the Data folder contained within any download mod to overwrite your EAW/FOC Data folder. Many people have found themselves screwed over, because they have done this, uninstalled the game, and lost the key. The reason this is so bad to do is because it essentially changes your game. Mods all use the games base files to run, and when your overwrite your base game files with mod files, your base game becomes the mod. At that point, you cant launch other mods unless you do a clean install.

If you did that

Ihav.net

These keys are legitimate, but are used by many, so unless you buy a new copy, don't plan on playing multiplayer that often, or reliably.

@Arinthian if you are running Win 7 then the mod launchers won't work which sucks so you have to make a .bat file.
