I'm sorry, but I'm not impressed.

Somehow you've taken Build and made it look and play worse than Witchaven and Tekwar, both of which used an earlier version of Build than Duke 3D. You only have two weapons (three if you count the invisible kick), both equally useless for different reasons, that are made from model rips from Unreal Tournament. Where's my shotgun, magnum or hunting rifle?

The zombies are terrible, liberally "borrowed" from Quake and made less fun. They're just bullet sinks that are better avoided than fought. Fighting them with the crappy pistol is just tedious, while the chainsaw is stronger but doesn't protect you from their proximinity attacks, which act more like a damage field than a melee attack. And they don't even animate when they attack you! They just play the same 3 or 4 frames of walking animation at all times.

To give you a good idea how frustrating this is, I beat the first two or three levels in under 2 minutes just by "crowd surfing" over the zombies, not even killing a single one. The first level has an annoying and confusing maze, the second is just a long corridor filled with zombies, and I gave up on the third because of the stupid switch-and-door "puzzle" that was repeated three times. I have to admit that releasing this for the PSP is nice, but I imagine there are better homebrew games.

I understand how hard it is to make a free game, but I feel you can do better. Work on the graphics and levels a bit more, add more weapons and zombies, then take out the ripped content from Quake, UT and Resident Evil. There's a promising game here. I love the idea of combining the Build engine with zombies but it needs more work.

I can't stand blatant art copypastefests especially of those as 'standalone games'

You fail to realize that Geoffrey, basically the man behind 80% of this mod, did all this on purpose. It's a MINI-MOD that unfortunately, got the wrong hype about it.

You can even read on his website "waiting for people to complain about the lack of models, weapons, etc" I mean, is just a mod for fun!.

You must realize that Geoffrey is an EXCELLENT mapper, definitely one of the BEST in the Duke community, just search for any of his maps, for exmaple fbsp001.map, and be amazed at the insane amount of detail put into it. Or search for screenshots of the map made by him for the upcoming mod "Survival", the refinery map, and you'll be drooling all over at the beautiful scenery.

With all this being said, I think it's pretty much clear that the design of Zombie Crisis was intended on purpose. If Geoffrey ever wanted to make a serious Zombie TC, you bet your *** it would be the best Zombie TC you've ever played in your life.

Thanks.

Snarboo sums it all up pretty much.

I must say that the concept of the game is good though.
The maps are indeed a bit plain, even giving you the feeling you are playing something like Catacombs3D. Which i can imagine being unattractive to many people. (I don't mind it all that much because there are very few FPS games out there i don't like).

The textures look pretty good and the music sets a good atmosphere too.
Be carefull with copying sprites and sounds from other games though.
And the gibs coming off a zombie when you are shooting one are pretty much overkill. You see like 4 hearts and 6 eyeballs coming off a single zombie. :P

Keep up the good work though! The more free stand alone games the better!

I know that some of you might be used to playing games like Crysis and Bioshock but I have to commend the dev(s) for this mod on their work. I see a lot of people come in here with "OMFG iM a 733t HAXXOR AND Im making teh zombeh mod of teh year!!1! lulz!!" and never give us anything other than a headache. People rip on others mods either from jealousy or they expect game of the year. So with that being said, encouragement will only help the devs produce better games and mods in the future and open up a whole new world for modding. If we condemn them now when they are taking baby steps in modding, we might lose a possible mod of the year.

I liked the base of the game...but the lack of weapons and levels kind of killed it. Also, why did I have to shoot a zombie 15 times with the pistol to kill it?
