Hey hey!
We’ve received a bunch of questions about Minecraft Realms. Here’s an attempt to answer most of them :) A select group of players now have access to the Minecraft Realms limited alpha test.
Minecraft Realms is a service designed to let players play on a server together with minimal setup, and will be available to the public later this year.
Will this change the way I play Minecraft?
Nothing will change regarding how you create, setup, or host servers today. Minecraft Realms is an additional service of hosting servers for those who want it. Nothing is mandatory.
How can I get into the Realms closed Alpha?
You can’t yet sorry. It’s a private, invite-only thing. Keep an eye on this blog for more info!
How much does it cost?
We’re not sure yet. It will be a subscription service. One subscription = one server. Only the host needs to pay. The host can invite (whitelist) friends to play on his/her server.
How many players can play together?
This is not confirmed yet. During the closed alpha we have set a limit of four players to test out our systems.
What is Minecraft Pocket Realms?
It is the mobile version of our Realms service.
How much will Pocket Realms cost?
We’re not sure yet. It will be a subscription service. One subscription = one server. Only the host needs to pay. The host can invite (whitelist) friends to play on his/her server.
How do I buy a Pocket Realms subscription?
Realms subscriptions will be available via an in-app purchase within Minecraft – Pocket Edition. You’ll need to log in with your Mojang Account to use the service. If you don’t have an account you’ll be asked to create one. This is all the info we have right now. We’ll keep you updated as things develop! Have a nice day!
Subscription? Laaaaaaaaaaaaaame.
Stop trying to suck money out of us and just give us the modding API already :'(
If you don't want to pay a subscription, learn about port forwarding and set up your own server. This only affects people who cannot figure out how or are too lazy to host their own servers.
Edit: I guess it affects those who don't have a powerful enough machine too.
or people who can't set-up port-forwarding due to other concerns.
such as college.
I was able to host at my college by switching the server port to something the school lets through anyway, such as Skype's default port.
With only the host needing to pay, this would be good for those without a sufficient internet connection or hardware to host their own.
But yeah, I would rather have a mod API over this, speaking of which, has taken an awful lot of time in hiatus.
nearly three years now, and counting, since their first promise of an API
Don't get me wrong guys, I can see the use for this, and I can see why people would want it, but if they have the time and money to work on this, they have the time and money to work on something they promised us literally over a year ago
why arnt all alpha members allowed in? so much for all updates givin freely
Do you even know what an update is?
Minecraft pocket realms huh? So does that mean Minecraft Pocket Edition is getting online play? 0_o
I still don't get it.
It's a server hosting program. You use it to host multiplayer servers.
Cool, but if you don't want to host a server, will it be free? And approximately how much for subscription
I believe when they mean "subscription service" it means currently paying for the server itself. So I suppose you can't be subscribed if you're not hosting a server.
The cost is undetermined at this point.
