Hello everyone,
My name’s Megamawman and I have been the texture artist for the team for about three years. Unfortunately, some real life events for nearly almost all of our members has caused this mod to just about to die. Wait! Don’t leave! There’s good news in the midst of all of this. At RtB, we realize that it’s terrible seeing a mod die, but we also realize that a mod shouldn’t be listed as active when development has slowed to a practical standstill. Having a mod die sometimes means you don’t get any of the content you hoped for and you feel like you waited for nothing. Multiple times, I have heard our work being called “eye-candy” and it sounds like you guys truly appreciate it.
We have decided to release in a semi-organized form, all of the source files for everything we have done. From the AKM to the WiP Trainstation, you’ll be getting everything we’ve ever showcased and done to a limit of course. Models that are 3-4 years old that have been scrapped will not be included and many of the files are not source ready such as the Megascans files and many other world textures. Instead, you get PSDs for editing in that department. Not bad right?
All of the content that is used in other mods must be credited back to Raising the Bar. For specific usernames, please contact me or Ambient at Megamawman@gmail.com or kylemullen0@gmail.com respectively and we’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Here are some examples of unreleased content:
RtB’s Future:
The development team will be disbanding however, we will still be keeping in touch for a future project. I understand that this may sound lazy but with a team of 6 people, there’s not much we can do. We are handing the source files over to you in hopes that you’ll complete maps, compile weapons, and so on. Essentially, RtB is becoming a community project. When Ambient and I feel that we have come far enough, we will bring back the original team along with many more members in hopes of compiling everything we have into the full mod. We’ll have to see how it goes as the community might lose interest.
In order to keep in contact or ask any questions, please head over to the Discord chat which can be found here: Discord.gg
Please note that this does not make the mod *dead* as we are simply taking a long term break hoping the community will continue to project for the time being. We will still be active on Discord.
From all of us at Raising the Bar, we want to say thank you for all the support, feedback, and motivation you guys have given us over the last 5 years. The problems that occurred within the team were largely due to lack of motivation but, moreover, a lack of organization. However, we still want to say thank you for coming along for the ride.
For all of the files, please head here: Bit.ly
Firstly, City 17: Episode One, now Raising the Bar... All good quality mods ceased / gave a break development...
Another sad day for Half-Life fans...
Thank you for your effort! I hope RtB can be fully done someday, but it does not seem any soon.
Well that's saddening.
Damn...
following this mod since 2013
thanks for everything you guys did a excellent work
Surprise, surprise.
The curse that plagues this community brings another into it's grasp, sorry to hear this guys.
Sad, well hope to see this finished some day, I'll still be on the discord.
Just remember everyone, it's only dead if the community decides to let it die. Our Discord will be open to anyone, and we are still going to be as available/active as possible. We just realized the small team we had going wasn't enough, especially with all the IRL stuff that just kept mounting up. Simply adding more people hadn't necessarily worked all that well either.
It was certainly a valiant effort, and I'm glad you've decided to release all your resources like C17:EP1 did; I'm sure someone out there could use it. Thank you for your hard work all this time, you'll be missed!
Argh, damn. Thank you for all the work over the years and best of luck for the future of the team. Thanks for releasing the assets as well.. hopefully we can still get this made.
Damn, sorry to hear, but it's usually the same with every other beta recreation mod, they stop development because it may be too much to work on. I think the community should start on something smaller, like recreateing the EP1 or EP2 betas, who knows.
But good to see you release your content instead of not doing so. :)
I think this is kind of funny in a way, I never expected this mod to release because Half-Life 2 beta mods don't roll that way.
I'm disappointed in you all. Not because you're not making this mod. But because you gave up on your passion. What was holding you back? Maybe this is just a message that Raising the bar needed a revision. But you gave up? The Crowbar Collective didn't give up, and look at Black Mesa. I'm just sad that giving up is so common for even indie developers these days.
I don't think that's a fair thing to say. First off, Black Mesa was a much larger team than the current 5 of us that were working on the mod. Secondly, irl stuff was insane with my personal life involving Grade 10 Piano (2 hours a day), Marching Band (8 hours a week), Hockey (4 hours a week), and school (all the rest of my time). I almost had no time for this mod and the only times were during the summer. Not to mention my other employer for freelance work at the moment.
AmbientNoise has also been extremely busy with 4th year university and can't spare any more time than I can to the mod. Our dream isn't dead. We're asking the community to continue the project and complete our unfinshed maps and use the assets we put all of our free time in to. You'd have to be in our shoes to understand that we don't have the time.
Sweet update!
I think i may say what it takes to make AND release a mod. That said, it is a real shame to see yet another mod go. I understand that you hope to see the community pick this up and finish it. But, we have seen this already so many times and i can't think of one mod that actually did finish this way.
The biggest problem is that a lot of developers don't oversee the whole project right from the start. They take on way to much and after a few months or even years they come to the conclusion that what they have in mind is simply not possible (with the people they have). To me it is always a mistery why they still keep trying then. Why not 'just' cut out the 'stuff' that can't be made and release it as such. It is in my opinions always better to release a slinker version of the mod as no release at all.
But, i do really apriciate it that you do release your assets so people can at least use that, or go on with it.
Starting with a mod is only 1/3 of the work, then comes the simply very hard work for months if not years(1/3). And the 3th 1/3 is finishing it and releasing it. Seems you guys are as most are stuck between the second and 3th part. Still, it was great fun to follow this mod as i have been doing for years. Thanks,
(a fellow modder/mapper)
Leon
edit;
(forgot another big issue, and that is the HL2 modding is nearly dead. Most HL2 modders have moved on to newer engines and or games, as have the public mostly done. HL2 download numbers are very low these months.)
Hello guys! Could you make a torrent of files it just hard for me to download from Google drive, download always break and i can't download anything.
That mod that lies in your archive, doesn't work. Takes off after a start.
What?! I'm the leader, i don't want cancel this project and i will continúe it, if guys don't want continue talk with me, but don't do this, take tour materiales and i will use mine.
Don't worry about your materials , will be removed from here.
